A new type of craft denim that's perfect for summer! "Crinkled Denim Suteteko Pants" Summer is so humid... If we apply the traditional material "cotton crinkle" that has been around since the Edo period to denim, we could make a very light and cool denim! ? This project was born from that idea. As the name suggests, they developed a denim fabric that incorporates the characteristics of the fabric "cotton crinkle (Takashima crinkle)," which is the secret to the coolness of suteteko. It has a light and cool feel like suteteko, while retaining the charm of the embossing process to create unevenness (ridges) on the surface and the unique aging of denim. This project was realized in a production area spanning three prefectures: Hiroshima, Shiga, and Oita. I was one of those people. This denim fabric has a narrow white selvedge, woven thickly to prevent the edges from fraying, and can only be woven on old-fashioned looms (shuttle looms) that are no longer in production. At first, colorless or white was mainstream, but it became popular when Levi's used red thread to prevent fraying, and the red line to prevent fraying came to be called "red selvedge." Denim made with this type of fabric, which has been manufactured since the 1970s, is still popular among many enthusiasts. However, the looms that weave this fabric are no longer manufactured! They are valuable machines. Of course, many of them do not have dedicated parts, and maintenance is difficult. We search for parts from looms that no longer work, or consult with foundries to have them made.
