Thanks to talking with you all about this, I realized that I wasn’t the only who faces on this problem🥲 . For some reason I’ve always felt that my feelings and social issues that I’m interested in are out of touch with my illustrations. So I’ve had a hard time showing my true self here. This is my private picture diary, and I didn’t plan to show to anyone. But I decided to leave it here as a step toward to the self liberation. . This post is about @union_magazine which is written in 2014 - Yes, it’s the story of how Union Magazine gave me the courage to become an illustrator (which I mentioned briefly in my instagram stories the other day.) . Back in time, I was working as an art director at some tech company in Japan, and I had been wondering whether or not to take on the challenge of what I wanted to do. . We need a lot of GUTS to challenge something we want to do, and are afraid to leave the stable life at the same time. But what Hiro-san told me really encouraged me and it was a moment to realize who I wanted to be. It’s one of memorable moments in my life, and I gave this illustration with hand-written letter on the back to the magazine team on that day! . PS. ‘Blog’ sounds like vintage to me😂, but it’s good to check in what I wrote sometimes. When I started my illustration career, I drew various kinds of illustrations and methods to find my style. After the decades in 2019, I was eventually selected as @adobe Creative Resident as a very first Asian woman - which I’m still super grateful for it🙏❤️, and be a full-time freelance illustrator for 9 years this year. . I appreciate my clients / supporters who arrow me keep running my business, but also I wanna thank my younger self to make it work. I feel like I’ve walked through dark and shine, and I never wanna forget my struggle times. - somehow this mindset keeps me motivated and stay humble. .
