UZU was born from the inspiration of this single piece, and it continues to be displayed in our Kyoto location to this day. Spatial Calligraphy is a form of calligraphy drawn in space that teamLab has been exploring since its founding. The artwork reconstructs the depth, speed, and power of brushstrokes in three-dimensional space, and then flattens them using teamLab’s unique logical structure of space known as Ultrasubjective Space. The calligraphy shifts between two and three dimensions, offering new interpretations of visual perception and spatial awareness. In this artwork space, the Spatial Calligraphy rotates in the same direction. However, because of the characteristics of Ultrasubjective Space, clockwise and counterclockwise rotation are logically equivalent. Hence, the work can appear to rotate in either direction, depending on how the viewer chooses to perceive it. This quality is embodied in the piece titled Reversible Rotation - Black in White. What kind of experiential value does a bowl of ramen offer within this artwork?
