After reading the Subversive Stitch, I was intrigued by embroidery in the form of mourning samplers. The function of embroidery is,by second nature, an act of mark-making but we often use it solely as a celebratory decorative. Through cross-stitching, a mosaic and pixelated visual language, I attempted to immortalise my memories of certain intimacies and by doing so process and censor them until they can only be universally deciphered as simple human silhouettes. On the flip side, digesting loss triggered an entire treasure chest of intimacies derived from kinship. For example cleaning out my dad’s belly button with a cotton bud when I was a child. Tbh everyday is a struggle. I feel my community is starting to become sick of my negativity. Sleeping and waking is starting to become a drag, but I’m trying so hard to pull my socks up. I am thankful for the support I’ve been receiving as of late. I am also apologetic for being so deaf to encouraging words. I just ask for everyone’s understanding and no one has to worry about anything. I’m ok and very much alive, artistically and humanly. I’m hoping I can stand on my two feet again soon. Using art-making as a way to channel feelings, as always.
