In “Embrace,” we express the three-dimensional image of plants, including not only the visible flowers and trees above ground but also the world of roots spreading deep underground. We use a motif of a rose's root and the flower nourished by those roots to represent this. Roots and flowers, like a mirror, create a similar form above and below ground, pulsating as one life. Yet, their appearance seems to embrace their past selves, affirming growth. The balloon shells from the preceding part of the exhibition, Roots—The Gathering of Life, have morphed into branches. These branches form the forests of our land where flowers, fruit, and creatures become energy to return to the land. The balloons, which degrade within their hardened shells, are a metaphor for the slow passage of time and the cycle of life. *The balloon shell artwork is a composition of multiple shells created by hardening white thread wrapped around a balloon and extracting the balloon. The fibers of the balloon shells used in the first floor window display are a mix of leftover thread and fiber made from recycled plastic bottles.
