八芳園の日本庭園を流れる小川のそばには、「瓦土塀（かわらどべい）」があります。使われなくなった瓦を土塀に埋め込んでつくられるこの塀は、景観を美しく演出するだけでなく、雨水の排水や強度の向上など、実用性も兼ね備えた先人の知恵の結晶です。約 35〜40 年前に施工されたもので、当時の写真や図面などは残っていませんが、静かにその存在を伝え続けています。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 🍃🍃🍃 A “Kawaradobei” (tiled earthen wall) stands near the stream that runs through the HAPPO-EN Japanese gardens. Made by embedding roof tiles that could no longer be used into an earthen wall, not only does it add to the beauty of the landscape, but it also has practical uses such as rain water drainage and improved strength, and it is also a reflection of the wisdom of our predecessors. Although it was constructed 35 to 40 years ago and no photos or drawings from that time remain, it continues to quietly convey their existence. 二十四節気では「小満（しょうまん）」の頃となりました。二十四節気とは、1年を約15日ずつ24等分し、それぞれの時期にふさわしい季節の名称をつけた暦のことです。「小満」の時期は、日差しが強まり、気温が上昇する季節。温暖で安定した気候のもと、山や野原の植物は急速に成長し、緑があふれる美しい風景が広がります。八芳園の日本庭園でも、緑が一層深まり、アジサイの花がそっと顔を出し始めました。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 We have now entered the “Shōman” (Grain buds) period of the 24 solar terms originating in ancient China. The 24 solar terms form a calendar that divides a year up into 24 equal periods of roughly 15 days and assigns an appropriate season name to each period. The Shōman period is a season in which the sunlight grows stronger and the temperature rises. With temperate and stable weather, plants found on mountains and in fields grow rapidly and create landscapes of flourishing greenery. The Japanese garden at HAPPO-EN has also grown increasingly verdant, and the hydrangeas have quietly started to bloom. 二十四節気・立夏の末候「竹笋生（たけのこしょうず）」の頃を迎えました。地中からすっと顔を出す筍は、収穫の時期が限られる春の恵み。土から出てから十日ほどで味が落ちるともいわれ、その儚さが旬の特別感を際立たせます。「上旬・中旬・下旬」と月を十日ごとに分ける呼び方も、筍の短い旬に由来すると伝えられており、八芳園の竹林でも、筍が日ごとに背を伸ばし、すでに人の背丈を超えるほどに育っています。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 We have now entered “Takenoko shōzu” (bamboo shoots sprout), the final micro-season of Rikka (the beginning of summer) in the 24 solar terms originating in ancient China. Bamboo shoots, which emerge swiftly and gracefully from the earth and can only be harvested for a short time, are a blessing of spring. It is said that their flavor deteriorates about ten days after breaking through the soil, and this fleeting nature highlights the special feeling of the season. The way in which months are divided into ten-day periods referred to as early, mid-, and late is also said to have come from the brief season of bamboo shoots. In the bamboo grove at HAPPO-EN, bamboo shoots grow taller by the day and have already grown taller than the height of a person. 本日は「松の日」。八芳園の庭園を現在の形に整えたと言われる、かつてこの地に居を構えていた実業家・久原房之助は、庭園にあった一本の赤松に強く惹かれたと伝えられています。庭づくりではなく「自然を整える」という彼の想いは今もなお受け継がれ、八芳園の庭園では、松をはじめ様々な木々や草花が四季折々の美しい景色を見せてくれます。日本では、松は古くから神が宿る神聖な木とされてきました。冬でも青々とした葉を保つその姿から、不老長寿の象徴ともされ、おめでたい樹木を表す「松竹梅」では、松は最上位に位置づけられています。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 Today is Pine Tree Day. 5月5日は端午の節句🎏 八芳園でも端午の節句に合わせ、料亭「壺中庵」の前には鯉のぼり、玄関には兜を飾っています。鯉のぼりは、江戸時代に町人の間に広まった文化。男の子の立身出世を祈るために飾られるようになったそうです。そして、今年の5月5日は「立夏」。暦のうえでは夏の始まりです。吹く風も少しずつ夏の気配を帯び、庭園の池を泳ぐ錦鯉の姿もいっそう輝いて見えます。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 May 5th is the Boys' Festival 🎏 Coinciding with the Boys' Festival, HAPPO-EN has also decorated the front of its restaurant "Kochuan" with carp streamers and the entrance with kabuto (helmets). 宝石のような碧に染まる池。普段は見ることのできない珍しい光景です。こちらは池の水質改善作業にともなって一時的に現れたもので、池の色は半日から一日ほどで元の姿に戻ります。今回の作業により、池はより美しく透明になり、鯉も楽しそうに泳いでいます。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 This is a rare sight that is not usually seen. It is a temporary phenomenon resulting from water quality improvement work, and the color of the pond will return to its original state in about half a day to a day. As a result of this work, the pond has become even more beautiful and transparent, with the koi swimming happily in the clear water. HAPPO-EN garden is undergoing renovation, and we are unable to welcome visitors at this time. 二十四節気では穀雨（こくう）の頃になりました。穀雨とは春の最後を彩る節気で、若葉萌える新緑の季節です。八芳園の日本庭園では、ギョイコウやウコンに加えて八重桜も見頃を迎え、みずみずしい新緑がやさしく広がっています。改修中の現在は庭園にご入園いただけませんが、日々移り変わる景色を投稿を通じてご堪能ください。 We have now entered the season of Kokuu, one of the 24 solar terms. At Happo-en garden, Gyoikou and Ukon cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossoms) are also reaching their peak. The lush, refreshing greenery gently spreads throughout the garden, creating a serene atmosphere. Happo-en is currently undergoing renovations and is therefore closed to the public.
