Akita studied under Karatsu potter Masahiro Takehana for three years before establishing her own practice. Her pieces gently reflect the natural beauty of Karatsu and the generous spirit often found in old Karatsu ware, reinterpreted through her own unique perspective. This marks his first show at our gallery in two years. Ogata's vessels embody the inherent power of nature, drawn into the clay and revealed through fire. Within the framework of functional tableware, a quiet dialogue with the material unfolds—each piece bearing a distinct presence shaped by this exchange. In addition to his well-known works with dynamic, textured surfaces such as brush-marked forms, this exhibition will feature a selection of serene kohiki pieces. The tension held within the firing process leaves a sense of stillness—an open space that gently stirs something within the viewer. Oya splits the wood by hand and carves it with a small plane, leaving the traces of the split intact.
