2026.01.15 10年前に来日してからずっと恋しかったカナダの冬がやってきました。そして、最近は本格的な寒さが到来。日本から着物用のコートを持ってこなかったのは愚かでしたが、ありがたいことに @lintontweeds 着物と @monokimi_jp の保温スリップで、-14℃でも十分すぎるほど暖かくすごせました。来月、親友とカナダ北部へ冬のロードトリップに行くので、絶対これを持っていきます。次の目的地はどこでしょう〜🇨🇦❄️🛷 Here it is—the Canadian winter I’ve been missing since 2016. And boy, did it come in full force. I was stupid to not bring one of my kimono overcoats from Japan, but thankfully my @lintontweeds kimono and thermal @monokimi_jp slip was more than enough to keep me warm on a -14C day. 2026.01.03 2学期が始まる前のシンプルな2026年の始まり。修士課程1学期は、社会人を10年やったあとで、Z世代のクラスメイトについていけず自分がつまらなくて愚かになっているように感じてしまいいました。 2ヶ月経ってようやくペースを取り戻し、オールAで学期を終えました。そして、博士号取得を目指せる能力があるかもしれないという実感を得ました。40代から始めなければならないとしても、この夢を叶えたいです。これから数ヶ月は勉強と結婚式の準備に追われることになりますが、楽しく充実した忙しさで過ごせていることに感謝しています。 A quiet start to 2026 before my second semester begins. I’m during the first semester of my MA, I struggled with a horrible case of imposter’s syndrome and felt like my ten years in the workplace had made me dull and stupid compared to my Gen Z classmates. Two months in, I really found my stride and finished the semester with straight A’s and the realization that I just might have what it takes for a PhD—even if I have to start in my forties. 2025.12.23 柔らかな紅型の着物とパレスチナ刺繍帯で、プリンス赤坂ホテルでの女子会へ🩵 着物をコレクションに加える時、持っているアイテムとの組み合わせのしやすさを考えずに、ついつい新しい着物を増やしてしまいがちです。着物の場合、ただ可愛いと思ったものを買うと、似たような着物ばかりで、組み合わせられない、ということがよくあります。今回、この古着の着物の小さい菊が、私が8年前初めてカスタムで作ってもらった草履と完璧に合うことに気付いてとても嬉しくなりました。そして、ピンクの菊が持っていたつまみ細工のヘアセットと美しく調和していることに気付いて合わせてみました。バターイエローの帯揚げを合わせると、おそらくこれまでで最も柔らかく調和のとれたスタイリングの一つになります。この8年集めて来たファンキーな着物は手放せませんが、もう少し柔らかく伝統的なスタイルに挑戦する2026年を楽しみにしています。 A soft blue bingata kimono and a Palestinian-embroidered obi for a girls date at the Prince Akasaka Hotel 🩵 I have a bad habit of just buying a new piece without considering how it will coordinate with other pieces you already own. With kimono, just buying things you think are cute often leads to a collection of similar, unpairable pieces. Thus, I was delighted to discover that the small chrysanthemums on this vintage kimono perfectly matched the first pair of zōri I had custom made eight years ago. I also noticed that the pink chrysanthemums matched beautifully with my tsumami-zaiku hair set. Paired with a butter yellow obiage, this is probably one of the softest and most harmonious looks to date. While I’ll never part with the funky kimonos I’ve collected over the past eight years, I’m looking forward to exploring a softer, more traditional side in 2026. #着物生活 #着物女子 #着物コーデ #kimonogirl #kimonostylist

2025.12.23 最近ますます排外思想が増加しているように感じる日本において、自分が歓迎されていると感じられる場所について語った@elsa_injapanの投稿に便乗します。私にとって、自分の「居場所」は場所ではなく、私の周りの大切な人たちです。そのひとりが、@ohariya_kimonoのオーナー、ゆかさんです。グッチやバレンシアガで働いた経歴を持つ彼女は、卓越したスタイリングセンスを活かし、何世代にもわたって家系に受け継がれてきた大事な着物芸術を守り続けています。ゆかさんの素敵なところのひとつは、本人の共感力です。本人にとって何の利益にもならないのに（実際、一部のフォロワーを失い、Twitterで嫌悪を受けました）、ゆかさんは私たちのような法を遵守する移民のために声を上げてくれました。自分と同じような人々の生活を改善しようとするには勇気が必要ですが、自分より立場の弱い人々のために行動するには、さらに大きな勇気が必要です。ゆかさんはそれを実行できる人です。単一民族の国でハーフの子供を育てるのは不安が大きく、ここでの将来もまだ曖昧ですが、ゆかさんとの友情のおかげで暗雲がいくらか晴れてきた気がします。 ♡♡♡ Piggybacking off of @elsa_injapan ‘s post in which she talked about places where she feels welcome in a country that has felt increasingly unwelcoming as of late. I don’t have a “place,” per se, but I do have a handful of people who have given me a sense of belonging. One of them is Yuka, the owner of @ohariya_kimono . With a professional background working for Gucci and Balenciaga, she uses her incredible eye for styling to preserve the art of kimono, which has been in her family for several generations. However, what makes Yuka an incredible person is her capacity for empathy. Though standing up for foreign residents didn’t benefit her at all (in fact, she lost followers and received hate on Twitter for it), she raised her voice for us law-abiding immigrants. It takes courage to try to improve the lives of people like yourself, but it takes a great deal more to do so for those who have no voice. Yuka is the kind of person who does the latter. I have a lot of fears about raised a mixed child in an ethnically homogenous country, and my future here remains quite unclear, but Yuka’s friendship has helped clear some of those dark clouds hanging over me. #immigrantstories #lifeinjapan #realjapan #着物スタイリング #着物生活

2025.10.17 母と日本から遊びに来てくれた義母との特別な日。私たち3人はみんな20代前半で母国を離れ、海外の人と結婚した。だからこそ、離れて暮らすことの大変さ、年老いていく親の姿を遠くから見守ること、友人たちが築いていく人生をもっと身近で支えられたらと思うこと、そして「もしあのまま故郷に残っていたら」と考えることの辛さを痛いほど知っている。それは、私たちが結婚した男性たちには決して理解できない感覚だと思う。だからこそ、同じ経験を知る2人の母がいて、自身が得られなかったサポートを私に惜しみなく与えてくれることは、本当にありがたいことであり、決して当たり前じゃないと思う。それは単なる「女性同士の絆」ではなくて、まるでお互いの人生を生きてきたかのような、不思議で深い結びつきなのだ。 A special day with my mom and mother-in-law visiting from Japan. All three of us left our home countries in our early twenties and married someone abroad, and we all acutely know how hard it is to live far away and watch our parents grow older, see our friends build lives that we wish we could be a bigger part of, and to always wonder “what if I had stayed?” It is something that the men we married could never understand. So to have not one, but two moms who know this experience, and do all they can to make sure I have the support systems that they didn’t is a blessing I don’t take lightly. 2025.09.29 I am really excited to be partnering up with @uoftjapanassociation to do a Kitsuke demonstration on October 17th at Robarts Library! I’ll be dressing a model from the club in this Ainu yukata and Okinawan minsā obi, explaining the history behind these indigenous crafts, and going over the rules of coordinating kimono based on seasonality and formality. There will be tea and Japanese snacks for all attendees, as well as the chance to make a mini-kimono origami! 2025.09.14 休日の大学構内の散歩なら着物で出かける自信がありますが、着物姿で授業に出席できるまではまだ時間がかかりそうです。正直、授業が始まってからのこの1ヶ月間は劣等感に襲われています。大学卒業から10年も経ち、英語力と思考能力が下がっていることを痛感しました。今週、大学卒業したぶりにそこそこの論文を書いて少し自信が付いてきましたが、成績が出るまで大学院生であると胸を張れません。🥲 I’m confident enough to walk around my campus in kimono on a weekend, but it will be a while before I feel confident enough to wear it to class. If I’m being honest, the past month in the Masters program has given me the worst case of imposter syndrome. Since graduating a decade ago, I feel like my English ability and critical thinking skills have deteriorated, and I hardly believe that I deserve to be here. This week, I wrote my first paper of the semester and I actually feel pretty good about it.
