4月1日より、本尊の「影」を拝む、長谷寺本尊御影大観音大画軸の原画(奈良県指定文化財)を公開いたします。重さ125kg、幅6m22cm、長さ16m46cm、大きすぎて掛けられない掛け軸。その昔本尊の大きさを各地で伝えるためこの画軸を担いで出駆けたという。本尊の御分身である御影を7月5日まで大講堂特別拝観で公開します。 From April 1, the original Great Hanging Scroll of Hasedera’s principal image will be on special display. A Nara-designated cultural property, this immense scroll (6.22m × 16.46m, 125kg) once traveled to convey the scale of the deity. On view at the Great Lecture Hall until July 5.

3月14日から始まる国宝本堂の#特別拝観、恒例の特別拝観記念御朱印のデザインが決まりました。観音扉絵を修復成就を寿ぎ十二天のうち#日天と#月天の印となります。金烏と玉兎を手に持つ日天月天は太陽と月を象徴して昼夜を通して世を照らし、災いを除き、心身の安寧と福徳を授けるとされます。朱印帳見開きに二天を押印する、それぞれ押印する、どちらでも対応できますが、二天の場合は金印が付きます。本尊十一面観世音菩薩さまにご参拝のおりにどうぞお求めいただければと思います。特別拝観が終わる7月5日までです。 The design of the commemorative goshuin for the Special Viewing of the National Treasure Main Hall, beginning March 14, has been decided. Celebrating the completion of the restoration of the Kannon door paintings, this goshuin features Nitten (Sun Deity) and Gatten (Moon Deity), two of the Twelve Devas. Holding the Golden Crow and the Jade Rabbit, they symbolize the sun and the moon, illuminating the world day and night, dispelling misfortune, and bringing peace and good fortune. You may receive them together across two pages of your goshuin book or individually. When receiving both together, a special gold seal will be added. Please receive it when visiting the Eleven-Faced Kannon, the principal image of the temple.

人はいさ　心も知らず　ふるさとは花ぞ昔の　香ににほひける #紀貫之　『古今集』長谷寺と紀氏とは深い関係にあったようです。長谷観音の霊験譚『長谷寺験記』に紀貞範(さだのり)が一族の繁栄を願い「文の道をもって家を興す子を一人お授けください」と願ったところ子を成したという。その子は長谷雄(はせお)と名付けられ、学問の誉が世に優れていた。そこから一族が長谷寺との関係を深めたそうで、貫之も幼少の頃に長谷寺で叔父の浄真の元に宿していたようです。長じて久方ぶりに長谷寺に帰ってきた時に詠んだ歌がこの歌です。歌にある花は梅の花で、写真の梅は歌にある梅の子孫にあたります。今も美しい八重の花びらと香りを漂わせています。 “Though people’s hearts may change, the hometown remains the same— the plum blossoms still carry the fragrance of old.” — Ki no Tsurayuki, Kokin Wakashū Hasedera Temple has long been connected with the Ki clan. It is said that the scholar Ki no Haseo was born after his father prayed here for a child who would revive their family through learning. Tsurayuki himself spent part of his childhood at Hasedera, and when he returned years later, he composed this poem. The “flower” in the poem is the plum blossom. The plum tree in this photo is believed to be a descendant of that very tree, still blooming with its layered petals and gentle fragrance today.

現在、本堂の観音さまがお入りになっているお厨子の扉に描かれている板絵の修理を行っております。その観音開きの扉には#十二天が描かれ、本尊お守りするよう配置されています。本堂が建てられた慶安3年(1650)に描かれたもので、#秀長により招聘された真言僧侶の#専誉僧正入寺より60有余年。長谷寺らしく観音信仰と密教が合わさったような配置となっています。写真は日天と月天、日天は三足烏の入った太陽(金烏)を持ち。月天は兎がいる月(玉兎)を持っています。最後の写真は梁で極彩色の霊鳥が描かれていました。 The panel paintings on the doors of the shrine that houses the principal image of Kannon in the Main Hall are currently being restored. The double doors are painted with the Twelve Devas, who are arranged to protect the sacred image. These paintings were created in 1650, when the present Main Hall was built. The photos show the Devas of the Sun and the Moon. The Sun Deva holds a solar disk containing a three-legged crow, while the Moon Deva holds a lunar disk with a rabbit inside. The final photo shows a brightly colored sacred bird painted on one of the beams.

It clearly shows how the over 10-meter-tall Eleven-Faced Kannon statue is enshrined within the hall. The issue also includes many striking photographs of Buddhist statues and temple architecture, making it a fascinating and highly recommended feature.

The thunderous roars of the demons rose toward the heavens, met by resounding cries of the gathered crowd, as blazing flames collided in a fierce spectacle. Misfortune was cast out, blessings were invoked, and prayers were offered for peace and well-being. #東寺で8日から行われていた真言宗最高の厳儀、#後七日御修法 (ごしちにちみしゅほう）が本日14日に結願を迎えました。玉体安穏・鎮護国家・五穀豊穣・万民豊楽を祈る法会。弘法大師の奏上によって承和2年（835年）に始められました。以降、幾たびかの中断などを挟みつつ存続していましたが、明治16年（1883年）に再興され、現在は勅使を迎え灌頂院で真言宗十八本山が一堂に会して執り行われています。今般、総本山長谷寺化主川俣海淳猊下と総本山長谷寺菩提院結衆小倉秀清大僧正が供僧として出仕いたしました。 The Goshichinichi Mishuhō is one of the most sacred and ancient esoteric Buddhist rituals in Japan. It is held every year from January 8 to 14 at To-ji Temple (Kyōō Gokoku-ji) in Kyoto, the head temple of the Shingon school. This seven-day ritual was first established in 835 by Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi) and has been continuously performed for over a millennium. Its purpose is to pray for the peace and stability of the nation, the well-being of the Emperor, and the happiness of all people. Conducted through secret esoteric rites, the ceremony itself is not open to the public. However, the dignified procession of high-ranking monks, gathered from major Shingon temples across Japan, can be witnessed each year.
