Despite the short duration, we received a warmer welcome than anticipated, and both we and HANGAO himself are deeply grateful. HANGAO belongs to the same generation as our members and grew up during China's rapid economic growth and globalization. At the same time, many Chinese brands with a global vision have been flourishing. Designers born in the 1990s have grown up in this privileged environment, taking cues from Japanese and Western designs while forging their unique path. This shared background and sensibility created a bond with us, serving as the catalyst for this exhibition. Over the past three years, we have engaged in cultural exchanges between China and Japan through various approaches such as documentary production, exhibition planning, and merchandise development. While we haven't set any specific goals, working with people and themes we're passionate about has allowed us to tap into a newfound energy. This energy is invaluable to us. HANGAO's Tokyo exhibition marks our very first project exhibition in Japan. Amidst the looming threat of war and the prevailing instability, our efforts might seem insignificant, but we firmly believe that such cultural exchanges are essential. The exhibition is titled "For a Better Experience, Please Wear Headphones," a phrase inspired by his childhood gaming experiences. The exhibited pieces encompass various fields, including experimental art, commercial design, and personal creations. Han Gao goes beyond the confines of a singular "two-dimensional" concept, much like the majority of the exhibition's focus isn't static media presentation but rather a continuous dynamism. He approaches design with an attitude of constant experimentation, infusing possibilities from various industries, and views the audience and the era through a personal lens, ultimately transforming them into composed and restrained symbols. Through his own works, Han Gao communicates that design is not just about functionality but also holds profound cultural, emotional, and societal influence.
