礼拝がすんだあとの教会のように静まりかえっているギャラリーで、サインペン片手に立ち竦む自分。 あまりにも閑散としていた。 自分の唾を飲み込むことさえ慎重になるほどに。 あのときほど“在廊”という言葉の重みを感じた日は無い。 帰りの新幹線で久しぶりに酒を飲んだ。 普段、私は酒に酔って帰ってくる様なことはまったくありません。 バスに酔って帰ってくる事はあります。 私も学生時代から柔道部でピンポンに励み、更には 墓参り、カワニナの放流、切手集め、紅葉狩り、コーヒー占い、ツチノコ捜索、ホットヨガ、銀杏拾いをやっていましたので精神肉体共に強靭ですが、最終日にお客様が少ないと流石に堪えます。 全て個人蔵となるので今回の展示を最後に金輪際見る事が出来ない作品ばかりです。 この忙しい中貴重な時間と電車賃を遣わせて絵や彫刻を見せられても、怨みしか生まないと思いますので「ご高覧下されば幸いです」などと、すっとぼけた事なんか口が裂けても言えませんがご高覧下さい。 2020年、ニューヨークの個展の時の話。 タイムズスクエアを歩いていたら突然、優しそうな黒人男性が、すばやく空気を切るようにCDを私の目の前にさし出してくれた。 よく日本の『かごめかごめ』を知っているなぁと感心したし、楽しそうなCDをくれたので英語だからか怒号の様に聞こえる要求のチップを払い（60ドル）、ホテルに帰りロッキー式シャワー（壁に手をついて後頭部にお湯をあてる所作）を浴びて部屋を薄暗くして椅子に座った状態で両肘を自分の両膝につけて前で手を組んで大きいバスタオルを頭から被った事を突然思い出してしまい、咽をしめつけられるような恐怖が私を襲ってきたので在廊できませんがご高覧ください。 『車ダンケシェー（車だん吉）』 というほとんど神来と言っていい言葉や、 『hey taxi』シリーズ（今回不出品）というような天啓が電光のように無尽蔵に閃いてしまいプレゼン欲望が私の中で抑えがたく膨れ上がってしまう。 家族にはSNSで講釈を垂れるなと注意される。 「あなたは口の中に虫が入って一周して出て行ったくらいの馬鹿なんだからお客さんの前でいい気になるんじゃないよ。いい歳をして回転寿司でハンバーグ乗った変な寿司を嬉しそうに食べている人だし、ウインナー天そばなんかを注文しないのよ普通は。」 展覧会というのはフィルムが切れるみたいに突然ぷつんと終わります。個展も明日17時まで。 作品は全て個人蔵になるので今回で見納めです。 ｢見たいけど遠い｣で人は諦めます。しかし、ここに運命的可能性が眠っているのです。わざわざ電車賃と貴重な時間を使った分だけ感受性が研ぎ澄まされ心の栄養吸収率が爆上がりするのです。諦めるより騙された方がましです。 たぶんましだと思う。ましなんじゃないかな。ま、ちょっと覚悟はしておけ。 「時間がもったいない…」と頭をよぎるでしょう。 「暑いし行くのが面倒だ…」とも思うはずです。 しかし、私の個展を見に行く『時間』なぞ地球46億年の歴史で考えたらほんの一瞬ですので全然大丈夫です。 画像と実物では、アンルイスと半ライスくらい違うのです。 大人は本物に触れるのが良いと知っています。 子供が「シマウマミタイ」と言えば親はすぐに動物園に連れて行きます。 大人の『見たい』は自分で行くしかないのです。 生の現場体験がどんなに重要かわかっているはずです。見に来てください。 「あの時買っていれば」と悔む人生より、 「あの時はどうかしてた」と追憶する人生の方が楽しいのです。 悔やんでも時間は戻せません。 手に入れなかった後悔よりも、手に入れてしまった後悔の方がまだましなのです。無くていいものは、あった方がいいのです。 インドの有名なことわざに『インド人もびっくり』と言うのがあります。 インド人もびっくりすると言う意味だそうです。 古代バビロニアのことわざには 『彫刻家一人助けると、猫千匹助けるのと同じ功徳がある』というのもあります。 本来なら、会場に毎日つめて芸術家らしく色と酒と薬に溺れた破滅型芸人的雰囲気をまとって鼻の付け根辺りに神経質な線を漂わせながら「彫るのではない。取り出しているだけだぜ…。描くのではない。祈っているのだ。」と言って皆様を閉口させてみたいのですが、今回は頭皮の調子が悪いのと、山へ柴刈りに行かなければならないので在廊できませんがご高覧頂ければ幸いです。 田島享央己個展 Don't worry 作品を前にして購入を迷っている方、まず腕を組んでください。そのままブリッジをする感じで勢いよくジャーマンスープレックスホールドをやってください。たったこれだけで作品は貴方の物です。（※クレジットカードの裏に暗証番号をマジックで記入しておくこと） 万が一、ただ脳天が貯金箱のように割れただけで意識がハッキリしていたら、欲しい作品の前に立ち、手を上げてください。 なにか言われたら、部屋の隅の方で体育座りをして膝頭をペロペロ舐め「しょっぱいなァ…」と言いながら宇宙の闇のような真っ黒の眼で一点を瞬きなしで見つめ続ければ大丈夫ですし、聞き分けのない家族の前で、ひとつふたつ平謝りして、背中を向けて牛乳飲めば、それで何も言う事はないのです。 昨日、作品が一点完成した。 まず家族に見て欲しいので居間に飾った。 しかし、娘も妻も全然気付かない。 全然自分のことを見てくれていない。昨日まではボサボサ髪だった私の頭に今日、斧がブッ刺さっているのに何も言ってくれない。 捨てられた子犬みたいな孤独と屈辱感の膜に包まれているように感じ、 「だれも気にしてくれない」と浴びるようにオレンジジュースとウーロン茶をチャンポンでつい飲んでしまった。情けないやら悔しいやら。 それを見た妻は 「いいかげんにしなさい。あなたの年で坂上田村麻呂は征夷大将軍だよ。」 と言ってきた。 カチンときてしまい 「エポックメイキングの事を野球盤の事だと思っていたくせになんだ！」 と、太い声で怒ったように叫んだ。 「アニエス・ベーの事をアゲインビーの店と言ってたくせに。」 「テレワークの事を“恥ずかしい仕事”だと思っていたくせになんだ！」 「明智小五郎を忠臣蔵のメンバーだと思っていたくせに。」 「パワーポイントの事を力仕事だと思っていたくせになんだ！」 「チップ&デール と、いうのが一般的な見解です。 私自身も、制作する題材、ボケまくる文章のせいだと思うのですが、癖のある特異な人格であろうと予想され、かなり警戒されると同時に見くびられる事が多いです。 しかし、実際は筑前煮を作って最後インゲンを斜めに切って添えるタイプですし、ズボンのポケットからたけのこの里1個とてんとう虫の死骸1匹が出てきてしまい、洗濯してくれた家族に叱られる位ピュアです。 農耕民族の権化的な早寝早起きの暮らしをし、その生活ぶりは判で押したように規則的で定時にアトリエに行き定時に帰宅の繰り返し。ですから歩いた所のアスファルトが少し窪んでいます。 酒もタバコも博打もやらず遊びにも行かず散財もせず、ただただ家族とホカホカ暮らしながら彫っては描いて、描いては彫っての生活です。何の展望もなく、じりじりと枯れていくように日々が過ぎて行きます。 とはいえ、破天荒破滅型芸人への憧れは如何ともしがたく、ジャックダニエル（麦茶）をラッパ飲みしながら ｢制作はいつも夜中。彫る前は必ず水垢離と瞑想をするんだ。白装束に身を清め、アトリエに入り材木の前に立ってハカをやってから作業する。風呂は40年入ったことない。移動はハゲタカで、酒杯は猿の頭蓋骨オンリー。買い食いはする、水は出しっぱなし、入っちゃいけない芝生に入る、上履きのカカトは踏む、知らない駅で降りる、おかわりしたのに残す、キンピラゴボウにお茶漬け、それが俺の晩飯。｣ そうです。 『居直り』です。 火にあぶったスルメのようにふんぞり返り意地のわるそうな薄笑いを湛え、口をすぼめるようにして「どうもすいませんでしたな」と大してすまなくもなさそうな口調で言えば大丈夫なのです。 「一生言う事聞くから一生言う事聞くからと泣き出しそうな声でしきりに哀願してきたじゃないか！」と言われたら、 この世のすべての法則を証明できるとでも言うような自信満々の声で そして、物理的にも殴られ怪我をします。 それ以来、家の中は空気が濃く重くドロリと液体化して生温かい糊のようにネバネバと皮膚にまとわりつくように感じられ、まさに生き地獄。 それが2週間程は続くのです。 しかし、 その頃には 購入した事がまるで前世の記憶みたいに遠くぼやけているはずです。 貴方は寝足りた朝のように、平凡な雑草までも眼をとめて眺めたくなるような優しい気持ちになっているのです。 見送る事は簡単ですが、思い止めて得られるものは後悔だけなのです。 行っても後悔するかもしれません。 しかし、ちょっとした運動にはなったのですから大丈夫です。 本当は「言いたいことは全て作品に込めた…。」と、歯痛を我慢した達磨の様な顔をして二枚目の芸を気取って黙っている方が徳なのは知っています。 しかし、それでは猫の子一匹私の個展なんかには来てくれません。 歯を食いしばってボケております。 私は在廊しませんし（頭皮の調子の悪化）この忙しい中貴重な時間と電車賃を遣わせて絵や彫刻を見せられても、怨みしか生まないと思いますので「ご高覧下されば幸いです」などと、すっとぼけた事なんか口が裂けても言えませんがご高覧下さい。 普段お世話になっております檀家の皆様には本来なら無料で差し上げたいところですが、そりゃ私だって商売です。家に帰れば家族がお腹を空かして待っています。 「私は彫刻家ではなく『彫り人 』なんです。」 などとムードたっぷりに言ってシーンとさせたりします。 つまらないものや薄気味悪い人間を見て楽しめる方はオススメ。 広い会場に客は数人。雨に打たれて尾を垂れた野良犬の様な姿で立っているのが私です。 話しかけるとボソボソ話し始めるが全く面白くない。 こんなのに貴重な時間をさいたかと思うと少し笑えてくる。 こういう地獄を現代で味わえるのは、初日のお昼過ぎからの数時間だけ。 恥ずかしいので私の姿は撮影しないでください。 産まれたての娘を抱きながら、さだまさしの『雨やどり』を聴いて号泣していた所を妻がiPhoneでコッソリ動画を撮影。 後日、調子に乗っている時に見せられ、トラウマになってしまいましたので、禁止とさせていただきます。 知らない人の靴をペロペロ舐めてお願いすることをコネクションと言うと思いますが、私にはそれが無く、ブログやSNS等で見てくださる皆様だけが頼りです。 『在廊しますよ〜！』などと大っぴらに宣言した上で切なく閑古鳥が鳴くと堪えます。 皆さんが来場されないと、おじさんがひとりぶつぶつ自問自答している地獄の様な空間となります。
