I’m a put-on-a-show kinda girl ✨ dancing in a trio with one of my biggest inspirations that helped reignite my fire for dancing @lovebrinnnicole Before she picked me for a trio, I had to pick myself. For little Paula, who made up dances in worn out leotards and dreamed of being a “pretty baby with the high heels on” 🎵 As soon as I heard this cover by @officialmaggieszabo my mind & body begged for choreo. I felt a connection to it: smooth, grown, stripped down. Without a “bassbass” or a “ticktick” to help accentuate the moves or to hide behind, we challenged ourselves to match our movements to the acoustic textures - both smooth and percussive. Squeeeeeezing for control and lines (cue involuntary muscle clenching every time I watch). I’m in love with how everyone rose to the challenge - how it looked and especially how it FELT. She’s not perfect, but I free myself of that unrealistic expectation every week in our “Bevelations.” It has changed how I dance and how I live. If you watch until the end, after the last turn and a few air guitars 🤭 you’ll see me walk off like this 🖕🏼Explanation: I am most certainly NOT flipping off my students, but rather a big middle finger to the old belief systems and doubts that held me back from growth, playfulness, self love and sisterhood for so long. I walk off so flipping proud that I JUST DID THAT, relieved I didn’t fall on my a$$, and grateful to be surrounded by other ambitious and empowered women.
