幻冬舎plusにて「純喫茶図解」の連載が始まります。この連載は書籍化が前提で、銭湯図解に続く『図解シリーズ』第二冊目となります。 純喫茶図解、第一回は10月20日に配信いたします。 ======================== ”銭湯図解の続きが、どうして純喫茶図解？”と思われた方も多いと思います。少し長くなりますが経緯を記しますので、お時間のある時に読んでいただけると嬉しいです。 きっかけは、大学時代の研究です。私は”考現学”に紐づく研究に携わっていました。考現学とは、様々な物証を元に古きを読み解く考古学と逆で、現在の世相や風俗を読み解きその背景を考察する学問です。ちょうど100年前の関東大震災の時、瓦礫と化した町の中でなんとか生活を立て直そうと作られたバラックを、今和次郎が記録したことから始まります。そこから、建物に限らずその当時の人々の服装や生活の様子、不可思議な都市の風景などを絵や写真などで事細やかに書き止めることが主な手法となりました。 私はこの考現学を元に地方都市の色彩を研究していましたが、この時街並みの色を数値的ではなく直観的に捉えて理解するために始めたのが水彩でした。そのため、この研究がなければ今の私はなかったでしょう。考現学から絵を描くことがスタートしたので、銭湯図解を描き始めた時も”銭湯の魅力を伝えたい”という思いが一番の動機ですが、その根底には考現学としての視点もありました。だからこそ、建物をただ描くだけでなく、そこで過ごす人々の様子を描くことにこだわっていたのだと思います。（初めは完全に無意識ではありましたが） 話は今に戻ります。2019年に書籍「銭湯図解」を出版してから様々な絵を描いてきました。茶室や、劇場、コワーキング施設、架空の建物、時には映画の舞台も。様々なお仕事をいただく中で、“建物を残すための絵“の必要性に気づき始めました。例えば、数年後に閉業するため書き残して欲しいと依頼をいただいたよしもと有楽町シアターや、こちらも閉店前に描いてほしいというご依頼の芸術銭湯＋Café 宮の湯。他にも、今後リニューアルを行うため今の姿を描いて欲しいというご要望や、書籍の中でも閉店してしまった銭湯がいくつかあります。お仕事のご要望や絵が完成した時のクライアントさんの表情を見るにつれ、図解の新たな側面を知り、これは私が続けるべき事だと感じた時に、思い出したのが考現学でした。 考現学は関東大震災をきっかけに始まり、高度経済成長期に隆盛するなど、時代が大きくうつり変わる際に盛んになっています。時代が変わる時に、今の世相や暮らしを残して未来に繋げなければという危機意識があったのではないかと思います。 コロナ禍や災害などで目まぐるしく価値観が変わり続ける今現在。特に東京は次に大きな地震がきたら壊れてしまいそうな建物も少なくないという危機感を常に感じています。そんな時代だからこそ、考現学に立ち戻り、消えてほしくない建物を絵に描いて残したいと思ったのです。 日本には愛着を覚える建物がたくさんあります。銭湯、純喫茶、駄菓子屋さん、寄席、八百屋さん、たばこ屋さん、建築家のこだわりが詰まった建物、美術館などなど、本当に無限に広がっているのです。その建物たちを少しでも残せるように、そしてその建物に今携わっている方の応援となるように『図解シリーズ』を始めたいと決意しました。 今後は様々な建物をテーマにしながら『図解シリーズ』をライフワークとしてのんびり続けていきたいと思っています。もちろん、銭湯もいずれまた出会いたいテーマです。しかしながら図解シリーズを広げるために、初めは異なるテーマとして、また銭湯に近しい面白さと愛おしさをもつ純喫茶をテーマにしました。 お話をいただいたのは昨年。 「銭湯のドールハウスの絵をお願いしたい」というご依頼で、今までにないお仕事のお話に飛び上がるほど嬉しくなり、喜んでお引き受けしました。 今回はいつもの図解の描き方から変えて、上から見下ろすような形の絵を描かせていただきました。きっと完成したドールハウスを覗き込むと同じ景色が見られると思います。 イラストは私の妄想が多大に含まれているので(お風呂道具とか池とか)ドールハウスを覗き込みながら皆さんの思い思いの銭湯の風景を想像いただけますと幸いです。 また、実は今回初めてとなる銭湯の壁画。もちろんペンキ絵ではなく水彩の小さなものですが…雲から朝日が昇る象徴的な富士山の絵を描きました。 今まで眺めて憧れるばかりの壁画を自分自身で描けることができてとても光栄です。 ドールハウスは現在販売中です。 一棟貸しヴェラ『Kito nasu』に寄り添うサウナ“Kino sauna"。家に寄り添う大きな木のように、人がより集まり寛げるサウナを目指しました。いつまでも居たくなるような心地よい空間です。 くわしくは @kito_nasu より。 後日、こちらの図解も描きます！ ================ 家に寄り添う大きな木のようなサウナを目指しました。 家の隣に立つその木は、夏の季節には繁った葉で暑い光を遮り、冬には葉を落として家の中まで光を差し込ませます。さらに、晴れた日にはピクニックにぴったりな木陰をつくり、雨の日は葉から滴る雨音が耳を楽しませてくれます。生活する上で必要はないかもしれないけれど、その木があるから生活がさらに楽しく豊かになる。Kino Saunaは、そんな大きな木のようなサウナをイメージしました。 In keeping with the idea of "warming up Japan," I envisioned a large open-air bath where various people can soak in the hot water and spend their time as they please. Decorated with lively illustrations inspired by Shimokitazawa, it is a relaxing space where you can spend your time in your own way. The first basement floor (fifth picture onwards) is a space with a kitchen that can also be used as an event space. It is a place where you can immerse yourself in work with 30 seats, and you can enjoy standing buffet during events.
