アイスクリームとシュガードック サイパンというと僕にとっては、かれこれ20年ほど前にイーグルレイシティというマダラトビエイが多い時には50匹以上群がる、リーフの中にある綺麗な砂地のポイントを何度も撮影に訪れたイメージが強い。 人が潜りすぎたからか、リーフに入り込む潮の流れが変わったからなのか、その数年後にはこのポイントにはもうマダラトビエイはまったく集まらなくなってしまった。と同時に、サイパンに足を運ぶことも無くなった。 2025年2月は、実に20年振りにロケでは無くて、プライベートでサイパンに訪れた。現地ガイドさんには、当然のように、最初にマダラトビエイの群れるポイントに行きたいとリクエストした。そして、イーグルレイシティは、もう全然マダラトビエイいないんですかね？とも尋ねてみた。答えは、もうまったくいないとのことだった。 結局、アイスクリームというマダラトビエイが見れるポイントに何度か潜らせてもらった。数匹から多いときに10匹くらいが確認できたけど、僕のイメージする個体数には到底及ばなかった。でも大潮の交尾の時期を狙って来れば、それなりの個体数にはなるみたいだ。 群れは諦めて、単体のエイを狙った。数が少ないとは言え、マダラトビエイへの寄り具合は、他の海と比較しても、断然近寄りやすいのは変わらない。 大きなサンゴの潮の流れの前で優雅にホバリングする個体を狙って、太陽をバックにシルエットにしてみたり、静かーに後ろから迫ったり、前から迫ったり。極力驚かさないように撮影した。 サイパンは、世界で一番透明度が高いとも言われる、ロタやテニアンと近い、北太平洋のマリアナ諸島に属する。その透視度は50mと言われることも。だから、コンディションの良い時の海は本当にスーパーブルー！って感じだ。そんな青い海をバックにしたマダラトビエイの写真は、今ではどこかウソ臭いくらいに背景が青い。マダラトビエイが撮りたいなら、サイパンがオススメなのは今でも変わらず健在だと感じた。 そんな中、ビーチエントリーできるシュガードックを潜ったときに出会ったのが、海草の上を優雅に泳ぐ1匹のマダラトビエイ。まさか、こんなところに！と思うような浅瀬、しかもビーチエントリーできる、週末には子供たちが集まって、海水浴して遊ぶようなポイントでマダラトビエイに会えるなんて！ そして、その背景は、一面グリーンの海草の草原！ 僕が海の生き物を撮影するのに好きなシチュエーションが、太陽をバックにしたシルエット、一面砂地の海底か、あるいは一面緑の海草の海底。今まさにそのシチュエーションにマダラトビエイがのんびり泳いでいるのだった。 本当は、他にやることがあって素潜りしていた僕は、嬉々としてそのマダラトビエイを撮影した。見てる限りでは、どうやらジェティーのコンクリートの下にできている窪みの砂に顔を突っ込んで、何かの餌を探しているようだった。それに夢中になっている時は、もう触れるぐらいに(触ってないけど)無警戒。なんか、ペットのマダラトビエイと一緒に散歩ならぬ、散泳にやってきたみたいな感じだった。 マダラトビエイをこんなに愛おしく感じたのは初めてだった。しかし、撮影したいのは、海草の上を泳ぐマダラトビエイ。他に用もあったし、早く海草に戻って優雅に泳いでる姿を見せて欲しいなーと、若干のプレッシャーを与えてみたのも事実🙏 そして、思惑どうりに、一番綺麗に海草が広がるエリアまで一緒に泳ぎ、撮影したのが最初の1カットだ。 ブルーウォターからエントリーして、ミノティラの沈み瀬に到達するまで、真っ青な海中でブリの大群に巻かれた。 数分間？ほんの一瞬の出来事ではあったのだけど、次から次へと湧き出てくるように高速で迫ってくるブリの大群は、まるで3D映像でも見ているかのような衝撃的なシーンだった。フードもしてたし、音など基本的には聞こえないはずなのに、何故か頭の中では怒涛のように押し寄せる波のような爆音が鳴り響いていたような気がする。 船長の話しだと、薩南海域でブリの大群に会うことはなかなかレアなのだそうだ。寒ブリと言われるように、実際に生息している海域はもっと北になる。五島列島あたりとか。 今回は17度と水温も低かったので、姿を見せたのかもしれない。そう考えると、少しの水温の違いを察知して、移動している回遊魚の能力って凄いなと感心させられる。 ワンエク・フォトトルーパー越智隆治 今後のワンエク乗船予定と乗船参加者募集 ワンエクのフォトトルーパーとは？ trooperとは、兵士、特に騎兵隊や落下傘部隊の兵士を呼ぶときに使われるとのこと。一定の訓練を身につけて特定の任務を遂行する能力を持っていることを意味する。 フォトトルーパーは、アンバサダーとかの表現よりも、ダイビングや撮影の特殊な技能を必要とするダイビングの多い、ワンエクのダイビングスタイルにピッタリの表現ではないかと思って個人的に作った造語でもあります。 オガンにて 三の根でこの時期、定番イソマグロ150オーバーの群れを撮影 テンマザキでは、バラクーダ狙いで入ったが、カンムリブダイの群れ、イソマグロの群れにも遭遇した テンマザキでは良くカンムリブダイを目撃していたが、今回のように50匹を超える群れに遭遇してのは初めてだった。やはり大潮が関係していて、産卵活動をしていたのかも しかし、パラオのように集団産卵ではなくて、ハーレムを形成していて、1匹のオスが複数のメスと何度も産卵活動を行っている感じだった。 また、バラクーダの群れとカンムリブダイの群れ、イソマグロの群れとカンムリブダイの群れ、バラクーダの群れとイソマグロの群れのコラボも目撃、撮影も行った。今後のテンマザキでの新しい潜り方のリサーチにもなる1ダイブだった #iriomote #iriomotejima the Blue 🇲🇽 メキシコ ストライプドマーリンスイム ベタ凪の海で、イワシの群れ(bait ball)を捕食する マカジキ(striped marlin)たち 餌のイワシの群れが、止まって動かなくなるときもあって、そうなると長い時間追いかけずに捕食シーンを見ていられるけど、激しく移動しながらの捕食の方が個人的には好きだ この写真も、マカジキ同様に激しく移動しながらの撮影。撮影チャンスはあっという間だけど、止まっている時より、良い写真が撮れる場合が多い この時は、カジキが吻でイワシを串刺しにする瞬間①と、それを器用に振り払って捕食するシーン②を撮影できた。おまけにベタ凪の水面にもそのシーンが映っていた。もちろん、ベタ凪のときは上に映る虚像も入れ込む事をいつも意識して撮影している 1月20日〜1月21日満席 1月22日〜1月27日空席有り 2月29日〜3月2日満席 3月3日〜3月5日空席有り 3月6日〜3月14日満席 3月15日〜3月17日空席有り 古仁屋は奄美南部、加計呂麻島との間にある大島海峡を含め、島々が入り組んでいて、親子クジラが長くとどまるには絶好の環境にあります。 奄美南部の船は、ホエールスイムに関して、お互い協力的なので、安心してホエールスイムが楽しめます。 また、上記したように島々に囲まれていて、風裏になるので、強風でも海に出れるので、欠航になる確率は低いです。 徳之島 2月10日〜2月16日空席有り 徳之島でホエールスイムを開催している船は一隻のみなので、他の船を気にすることなくゆったりとホエールスイムが楽しめます。
