This artwork also has no structure by itself, but rather the structure emerges from the flow; it is soft and flexible like a life form. The flow is what creates order from chaos. The artwork is strongly influenced by its environment, including wind, rain, and humidity. The number, movement, and height of the pillars changes significantly. The crows attempt to fly around people in the space, but when they crash into a viewer, they scatter, turning into flowers in the same way. When you stand near a certain designated space within the artwork the boundary between the wall and the floor disappears, the real space dissolves, eventually we become immersed in the artwork world and the lines drawn by the trails of the crows appears to be drawn in three dimensions in the space. Life is continuous with its environment, an existence whose boundaries are ambiguous. The giant sculptures in this artwork depict the continuous dissipation of energy into the environment by the birds that fly around them. When birds fly, that energy affects the environment, such as the flow of air. The wind blowing and the birds flying at the present moment, and the memories of birds that flew by from sunrise to sunset overlap. The sculptures depict the energy dissipated into the world by the birds. If birds do not fly around the artwork, the sculptures will dissolve into the darkness, as though the artwork is non-existent. Therefore, in order to create an environment on the lake’s island that is favorable for birds, flora was planted to attract insects that birds could feed on. The sculptures are created by the birds that gather around the flora. The existence of both the birds and insects, however, is not sustained only by the flora of the island, but rather by the larger ecosystem made up of the forest and lake of the vast botanical garden. The ruins from ages past scattered in the forest and the Edo-period garden which remains today each have their own respective space-times. The bath house was made in modern times, but after just a short period, it was abandoned, becoming a space-time where time had stopped completely. And this group of megaliths is also a mass made up of compressed space-times where the flow of time varies. The synchronization phenomena is when different rhythms influence each other and become aligned. The pendulums of two pendulum clocks hanging on the wall gradually become aligned. When many fireflies gather on a tree, they gradually start to flash at the same time, creating a large light. The cells that make up the heart synchronize and vibrate at the same time, generating heartbeats. This can be seen in a variety of systems, including physical phenomena, neurophysiology, living systems, and ecosystems. Dance can also be seen as a phenomenon of the body synchronizing with the environment. Living things eat and are eaten by other living things in one shared ecosystem. The creatures you draw will multiply if they eat other living things, but they will die and disappear if they do not eat enough, or if they are eaten by other creatures. The salamanders eat the snakes, the snakes eat the lizards, the lizards eat the frogs, and the frogs eat the butterflies, each one propagating as a result. Likewise, the butterflies multiply in places where flowers grow. Although flowers will bloom if people stay still, their petals will scatter if people walk around and step on them. Salamanders will die if people step on them too much. Living creatures spread throughout the world, increasing and decreasing in number. Wherever the sphere is, the behavior of light is maintained across the whole of the space (a three-dimensional image in which one sphere is regarded as one dot). Therefore, the light behaves as a group and can be thought of as one three-dimensional existing space. At this time, the light spreads spherically around the impacted sphere. Since the spheres are freely positioned within the collection of sphere elements that make up the three-dimensional space, people recognize it as existing three-dimensionally and part the spheres entering into the three-dimensional existing space. Through self-organization over time, this synchronization phenomenon creates a large ordered structure. When you touch a solidified light, you realize that the visible part is part of something that continues to flow without interruption. The bubbles are soap bubbles. This floating, immense sculpture emerges from a sea of bubbles, transcending the very concept of mass. It neither sinks to the ground nor rises completely to the ceiling, but instead drifts in the middle of the space. The contours of its existence are ambiguous—it fragments into smaller pieces, but merges into a larger mass. Even when people fully immerse themselves in this sculpture, its existence remains intact. If broken by people, it naturally restores itself. However, when the sculpture is destroyed beyond what it can repair, it collapses, unable to recover. Even if people try to move or push this floating sculpture, they cannot do so, and if they stir up wind, the sculpture disperses entirely. Physical human actions cannot move the sculpture. Objects such as stones and man-made creations maintain a stable structure independently. A stone, for instance, will remain unchanged even if placed in a sealed box, isolated from the outside world. In contrast, a vortex in the ocean will vanish in an instant if removed from its environment. Unlike a stone, a vortex does not sustain itself; it evolves with the surrounding currents, formed by water flowing continuously from the outside to the inside and from the inside to the outside of the vortex, changing along with the flow. Moreover, the boundaries of its existence are ambiguous, and there is no material distinction between the vortex and its surroundings. Rather than a solid object, this sculpture is created by the order of energy generated by the phenomena of a unique environment. Let us call this existence created by the order of energy, a High Order Sculpture. Spatial Calligraphy is a form of calligraphy drawn in space that teamLab has been exploring since it was founded. The artwork reconstructs calligraphy in three-dimensional space to express the depth, speed, and power of the brush stroke, and that calligraphy is then flattened using what teamLab terms Ultrasubjective Space.
