So we decided to demolish part of the site and turn it into a grassland. A grassland like a vacant lot in an industrial area. The wind returned, the rain spread, and the sun increased. When the wind blew strongly, the wind caused artworks to appear, when the rain fell in the darkness, the rain became artworks, when the sun rose high, the sun gave birth to artworks. teamLab advocates Environmental Phenomena; artworks do not exist independently, but are created by the environment which produces the various phenomena that cause the artworks to exist. Up until now, things that humans have created have existed through matter, just like a rock, and have a stable structure in and of themselves. Where is the focus? And does it exist? Inside the sphere there is a mixture of real, physical light, a strong spherical light that looks like light has crystallized and which instantly breaks down, high up is a faint light like a wobbling lump of jelly, and countless lights are created by the surrounding environment, with alternating moving light and still light. However, spheres of light and light jelly do not exist. There is no glass or other material on the surface of the sphere of light; the sphere is made only of light. In the physical world, light does not solidify and light does not become a spherical mass. In other words, this sphere of light does not exist. The same is true for light jelly. The spheres of light and light jelly do not exist in the physical world, but are Cognitive Sculptures that exist in the world of perception. The materials are light, body, and perception. The shape is created by the dynamic body and perception of the person experiencing it, and it is a sculpture that appears and exists only in the person's own world of perception. On view at “teamLab: A Forest Where Gods Live - GC” Mifuneyama, Takeo Hot Springs, Kyushu @teamlab_mifuneyamarakuen ・ “Forest and Spiral of Resonating Lamps - One Stroke, Autumn Mountain” Before the modern era in Japan, Kasane no Irome (nuances of layered colors) were seasonal colors created in silk. The complicated colors were the result of a combination of front and back colors (silk at the time was so thin that the liner was transparent, creating more nuanced colors), overlapping color gradations, complex weave colors, and combinations of warp and weft. When a person stands still close to a lamp, it shines brightly and emits a color that resonates out. The light of this lamp becomes the starting point, and it spreads to the two nearest lamps. The light from the two nearest lamps transmits the same color to other lamps, one after another, spreading out continuously. The light transmitted from the lamp always resonates out as a bright light once, passing to close lamps, until all of the lamps have shone brightly once, and then returns to the first lamp. The light of the lamp in response to human interaction, divides in two, becomes one optical line through all of the lamps respectively, before finally, returning to the first lamp that was the starting point. The concept of the project is that non-material digital technology can turn nature into art without harming it. As the artworks in this exhibition are influenced by the trees and birds that live in the garden, if the wildlife disappear, the artworks will also disappear. The trees and birds cannot be separated from the ecosystem such as the garden’s forest or lake, so if the environment is not sustained, the trees and birds will cease to exist, and as a consequence, the artworks as well. The artworks’ existence is not defined by their physical surface boundaries, but is continuous and ambiguous with its surrounding environment. The artworks transform interactively, influenced by wind, rain, as well as by the behavior of the people in it, making the environment and the people a part of the works. Color in a creature on the paper provided, and see the picture you have drawn come to life and move in front of you. Living things eat and are eaten by other living things in one shared ecosystem. The creatures you draw will multiply if they eat other living things, but they will die and disappear if they do not eat enough, or if they are eaten by other creatures. The salamanders eat the snakes, the snakes eat the lizards, the lizards eat the frogs, and the frogs eat the butterflies, each one propagating as they consume. Likewise, the butterflies multiply in places where flowers grow. Although flowers will bloom if people stay still, their petals will scatter if people walk around and step on them. Salamanders will die if people step on them too much. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List is a database of the conservation status of biological species. The perception of the boundary between the artwork and your body is ambiguous. When you broaden your vision, dark purple-blue spheres also begin to appear, as though darkness has been solidified. If you try to touch a sphere of light, the sphere shines brightly and the surrounding spheres respond one after the other. When Tea in Spontaneous Order shines brightly, the surrounding spheres also respond one after the other. Light does not solidify, and masses made entirely of light do not exist in the universe. In other words, these spheres of light only exist in your perception. The work cannot exist on its own - its existence is a phenomenon created by its environment. Coming out of the deep mountain forest there was a valley. There were remains of rain-fed rice terraces, now a marshland covered in reeds. They looked like secret rice terraces. Thinking about the long existence of nature and human activity continuing together, we decided to create artworks of the remains of the rice field terraces hidden in the forest. The artwork’s existence is not independent, but is actually a unique phenomenon created by its environment. The places where the work appears will change as the viewer moves. The work’s appearance is unique to the viewer, so someone viewing the artwork from another angle will see a different colored work appearing in a different place. A year of seasonal flowers from the area bloom throughout an hour, continuously scattering and changing. Flowers are born, grow, bud, bloom, and eventually scatter, wither and disappear. The flowers are in a continuous cycle of life and death, repeating forever. Our own existence is part of this continuity of life and death, repeating endlessly, for an overwhelming length of time, for billions of years. However, it is difficult to perceive this in everyday life.
