＼#新美の建築探訪／館内にある３つの円錐形。2つのコーンと、あと1つは？正解は、正面入口。大きな建物の中で、遠くからでもメインエントランスだとわかるようにするために、設計者の #黒川紀章氏が考案したデザインです。円錐の中央には、国立新美術館のロゴ色と同じ、緋色のリングがあります👀 リングを真下から見上げると、ライトが取り付けられているのがわかりますが、実はこのライトはリングの上部にも仕込まれています💡 夜になるとリングの上下から光が放たれて、正面入口が白く浮かび上がるように見えるのです。暗い時間でも、入口がどこか迷わないように。設計者の工夫が見られるスポットです。＼#NACT Architecture／ Three conic structures in the NACT. There are two concrete cones, and what is the last one ? The answer is the main entrance. The chief architect #KishoKurokawa stated that the conic entrance is meant to enable people to recognize the Main Entrance from a distance despite the building’s large size. At the center of the cone is a “hi-iro” (scarlet color) ring, the same color as the NACT’s logo.👀 If you look up at the ring from directly below, you can see a light installed on the bottom, and in fact, the same type of light is also mounted on the top💡. At night, light is emitted from above and below the ring, and the Main Entrance emanates a powerful, luminous white presence. Discover NACT's innovative lighting✨ Visitors are greeted on approach by the undulating curves of the Glass Curtain Wall, imparting a translucent quality to the entire length of the south side of the building. The glass louvers allow the illumination of the interior with soft daylight while minimizing solar heat. Inside, the striking Hikari-kabe, or “Light Wall,” extends from floor to ceiling—marked by more than 1,000 fluorescent lights that glow from between vertical lengths of wood. The soft orange tone of the Light Wall creates a peaceful scene that contrasts with the crisp white illumination of the Main Entrance. Throughout the day, the center’s appearance undergoes subtle transformations as the natural light shifts, but the change is even more pronounced as night falls. Viewed through the Glass Curtain, the soft flow of the Hikari-kabe evokes the ambiance of a traditional Japanese lantern, creating a captivating atmosphere that has established the museum as a landmark in central Tokyo. 　　 💡Did you know? The National Art Center, Tokyo has three cafés and one restaurant, each named after its unique interior layout and design. Located on the third floor of the National Art Center, Tokyo and overlooking the Center’s vast entrance hall, Brasserie Paul Bocuse Musée is a full-fledged French restaurant with a casual vibe. Salon de Thé Rond is a circular tea room situated at the top of our inverted cone-shaped atrium, directly in front of the second-floor exhibition rooms. This makes it a perfect place for visitors to experience an extraordinary space while discussing their impressions of one of NACT’s exhibitions or events. Café Coquille (the French word for “shell”) is an ideal place to relax, enveloped by the light that ripples like a shell as it streams through the glass curtain wall. This area also takes advantage of our 21-meter-high atrium space. Adjacent to the basement museum store is our Cafeteria Carré (the French word for “square”). We are looking forward to seeing you at one of our three cafés, your selection based on your mood and purpose. Some may wonder why the main restaurant in a Japanese institution serves French cuisine. This choice reflects the vision of Kisho Kurokawa, the NACT’s architect, who intended the Center building to function akin to a bustling city square. In other words: a place open to everyone, where visitors are inspired and feel welcome to linger—not unlike a French brasserie. アートな雰囲気とともにカフェやレストランでくつろぐ。国立新美術館には、3つのカフェがあり、それぞれにユニークな魅力をもっています。 2階の「サロン・ド・テロンド」は、逆円錐形の建物の上部に広がる円形のティールーム。展示室2Eの目の前にあるので、展示を見た後、感想を語りあったり余韻に浸るのにもぴったりです。貝のように波打つ、ガラスのカーテンウォールから指す光に包まれながらくつろげるのが、1階の「カフェコキーユ」。天井高約21mのアトリウム空間を体感できるのも楽しく、待ち合わせにもちょうど良いスポットです。そして、地下1階のミュージアムショップに隣接するのが「カフェテリアカレ」。お好きなものを自分で取るキャンティーン形式で、バリエーションも豊富です。その日の気分や目的にあわせて、3つのカフェをぜひ使い分けてみてください。もちろん、カフェだけの利用も大歓迎です。また、3階にある「ブラッスリーポール・ボキューズミュゼは、正統派フランス料理をカジュアルなスタイルで提供するブラッスリー。子どもと一緒にフレンチレストランに行くのはなかなか難しいと思われるかもしれませんが、12歳以下が対象の「お子様メニュー」があるので、気軽に訪れてみてください。期間限定で、企画展に合わせたメニューや季節メニューが登場することもあるので、作品の鑑賞とともにそうしたメニューを楽しむのもおすすめです。 #国立新美術館 #NACT #thenationalartcentertokyo #新美tips #NACTtips #お子様とご一緒に

Roots could be traced back to the paradigms of the Bauhaus, which provided comprehensive education of art and architecture. With their new perspective of form based on human internal senses and the removal of ornamentation, Bauhaus artists started to create everyday items with simple and functional designs, such as textiles, metalware, and lighting fixtures. NACT invites visitors to enjoy a friendly and accessible experience. The National Art Center, Tokyo is located in Roppongi, but is actually closer to the Nogizaka subway station than the larger Roppongi Station. Adding to the convenience of Nogizaka Station is an elevated, partially covered pathway that connects the station’s Exit 6 directly with the Center. This connection is particularly useful on rainy or extremely hot days, with the roof providing protection from the elements, and for those using a stroller or wheelchair. Complimentary wheelchair rentals are available on-site, and all the floors are flat and easy to navigate, with multipurpose restrooms available on each level. Pierre designed to support the existing third floor with steel columns and insert three levels of floors into the void of the former first and second floors as a clinic, a salon for guests, and a private bedroom. Inside the house, there were several features that cleverly utilize industrial products to suit the user such as the grand staircase to the salon, where movable perforated metal separates patients and visitors and retractable ladder stairs leading to the bedroom. They dynamically orchestrate Chareau’s vision for living. In this exhibition, you can see how the residents lived with those devices by a video installation. Take a break from the daily grind🌿 日常を忘れる Many busy urbanites may find it hard to make time for a few hours of quiet art appreciation. That’s where the National Art Center, Tokyo’s hospitality services come in. In addition to strollers that can be borrowed for free at the main reception desk on the first floor, the Center offers a bilingual (English and Japanese) childcare service. Please see Childcare Service for more information. Once at the NACT, visitors are encouraged to take in the art, architecture, and atmosphere at a leisurely pace. In keeping with the vision of Kisho Kurokawa, the Center’s designer, the focus on calm and relaxation extends to the tiniest details. For example, the see-through elevators that travel between the lobby and the upper floors do not have “close doors” buttons, which are otherwise common in Japan—a subtle suggestion not to worry so much about the passing of time. 💡Did you know? Sit on a masterpiece 名作に座る。 In keeping with the National Art Center, Tokyo’s ethos of being an inviting space that encourages you to linger, the building’s lobby and corridors have plenty of chairs, benches, and sofas for visitors to relax on. What’s more, these aren’t just any old seats—they’re all showpieces of furniture design. Among the highlights are modernist lounge chairs by the Danish master Hans J. Wegner, and understated black leather benches by fellow Dane Poul Kjærholm. Kjærholm’s comfortable creations line the corridors on the second and third floors, facing the Center’s “Light Wall.” Even if you aren’t particularly interested in furniture design, trying out the various seats and finding your favorite corner of the Center for a moment of peace and quiet makes for a fun way of exploring the spacious building. 💡Did you know?
