“Shinano Smile” 🍇 ⁡ In our field, there’s only one vine that matures about 2 weeks earlier than others, and this is series photos of its grape. It serves as an indicator for harvesting. Summer is in full swing! 🌞 ⁡ Even Ventura Inland, which has been quite cool this year, is steadily heating up and our grapes are growing beautifully😊 However, due to spring arriving a month later than usual this year, the coloring of our grapes is also delayed by a month 🍇 ⁡ We often get asked when sales will start. This year, it will be later than usual - we anticipate beginning sales in late August or September🤙🏽 ⁡ We apologize for the wait, but promise it will be worth it. Queen Nina Grapes 🍇 Our last variety of the season “Queen Nina” will be available tmrw at Santa Monica Farmers Market🤙🏽 Queen Nina Grape is not a slipskin, but it is a delicious grape anyway. It is positioned as a high-end variety in Japan and is very popular. The heatwave did relatively little damage to the Shine Muscat grapes, but the rest of Shinano Smile grapes were almost completely cooked up on vine. We will bring some of the survived ones, but there are only a few crates left. Magical Grapes Explained🍇 Since being featured on the Overheard LA (@overheardla) , many people have become aware of Magical Grape🙏🏽 That post has received over 700 comments, with gratifying positive comments from our customers, as well as negative comments from those unfamiliar with Japanese grapes. We are rather grateful for this, as we think it is more valuable to have both pros and cons than to be completely unknown. However, some people claim that we are lying, scamming or ripping off them, which is not true, so we will explain👉🏼 1) The price is too high. Once you have tasted it, you will know that it is worth it. Free sample available at the market. 2) No grapes sold at $50 in Japan. In Japan, it is quite common to find a $20 Shine Muscat at the average supermarket. It is not uncommon for the best ones to cost $150. They are also popular as gifts (See photos, pls note Japan Yen is historical weak this year) There is "Ruby Roman” grapes that has fetched over $10,000 at market auctions. (Google it) 3) Since grown in California, they should be cheap to produce. Rather, the opposite is true. In order to maximize the potential of Japanese grapes, we use a unique Japanese cultivation method. Simply put, each bunch is thinned out, the number of bunches on vine is limited, and the grapes are bagged to protect them from birds and bees. All of this is done by hand and cannot be mechanized, so it is a costly process. (Minimum wage in California is double that of Japan.) We make every effort to sell our products at prices as similar as possible to those in Japan. 4) Other grapes from California are cheaper. There is no point in us producing grapes that you can buy at Walmart. We want to bring you the best grapes that taste like magic, even if it takes a lot of work. 5) Where can I buy them? Tomorrow's market in Santa Monica on 8/31 will be our last. We will be back in mid-September for a week, along with another tasty grape “Queen Nina” Sorry, we do not ship.
