突然ですが、『侘び、寂び』について質問を受けたので簡単にご説明致す。コレについて鈴木大拙先生（仏教と禅について世界に推し広めた高尚な仏教哲学者ではあるが、古今東西様々な疑義が呈されている。）の主張を参考に始めたい。何故ならオトーチャンの祖先は、仏教徒で宗派は禅宗の一派である。当然ながらオトーチャンは、一般的な日本人のような無宗教、無神論者ではない。唯の読書の👹である。また一度読むと文章や関連する事柄を同時に引き出しにしまい込むので、便利な脳みそを持っている。さて、始めよか？侘び(wabi)について侘び(wabi)は、粗末で簡素な様子を意味する。わぶ（wabu）気落ちするわびしい(wabishii)孤独で味気がない侘びの真の意味は『貧（poverty )』であり、否定的に言えば時代の流行に乗る人々の一員にはならない。貧であることは、富•権力•名声といった俗世の物事に目を向けず、他方で時代や社会を超えた至高の価値を有する何かを、内面にありありと感じることを意味する。これが侘びを構成する本質的な要素です。日本の文化生活には、侘びの信仰が深く根付いており、西洋の贅沢品や、暮らしの快適さが浸透しても『侘び』に対する憧れが消えることは無いと先生は仰っておった。知的生活においても同様である。私達は知識や観念の豊かさより、寧ろ自然の神秘を感じることや静寂に包まれながら、この世界を我が家のように感じる感動を求める。多くの都会人が森でキャンプをしたり、未踏の地に向かおうとするのは、誰もが自然の胸元に帰りその鼓動を直に感じたいと願うからではないか？其れこそ『禅』の心の習慣なのであろう！寂び（sabi)とは、閑寂さの中に、自ずとあらわれる美しさを意味する。さぶ　（sabu）動詞　時の経過とともに劣化するさびれる　(sabireru)人がいなくなり静かになる不完全な形、醜い形にすら、美を具現化させる、これは日本の芸術家たちが、最も好んできた妙技の一つであろう。不完全性の美が、古めかしさや原始的な荒々しさを伴うとき、そこに『寂び（sabi)』が、微かに現れる。寂び（sabi)』を構成する要素として、素朴な飾り気のなさ、古風な不完全さ、シンプルで力が入っていない構造、さらにはそれらを芸術にまで高める説明不可能な要素など挙げらるが、それらは全て、『禅』の美意識から派生したものであろう。『寂び(sabi)』の文字通りの意味は、「寂しさ」や「孤独」ですが、そこに漂う芸術的な要素を、鎌倉時代の歌人　藤原定家は、次の通り二見浦百首にて詩的に定義したと思われる。見渡せば花も紅葉もなかりけり浦の苫屋の秋の夕暮れ「新古今和歌集」（巻四）秋歌上・３６３藤原定家作のこの和歌は、秋の夕暮れを詠う「三タの歌」として日本では、古くから親しまれている歌です。新古今集の藤原定家の代表的な作品の一つ。この歌は「三タの歌」の一首として有名です。「三タ（さんせき）の歌」というのは、新古今集所収の「秋の夕暮れ」を結句において結びとした3首の名歌を呼ぶ呼び名です。現代語訳は、日本人でなければ、かなり難易度が高いと思われる。藤原定家が表そうとしたのは、『侘び、寂び』の美意識です。【現代語訳1】辺りを見渡しても、花もなければ、紅葉もない波打ち際には、ひっそりと古屋が立っているばかり秋の夕暮れ時の微かな光の中に【現代語訳2】見渡してみると、美しく咲く花も見事な紅葉も見たらないことだよ。浜辺の粗末な漁師の小屋だけが目に映る、なんともわびしい秋の夕暮れであることよ上記のように、現代語訳は人によって様々である。つまり高度な技術により難解な面もあり読み手により微妙に解釈が変わる恐れもある。その上での英訳はさらに難しい😓 この歌が長く評価を受け続けている理由は、見えていないもの、そこにないものを表現して打ち消すという高度な技を使っている。読者は「花」「もみぢ」ということばを見て、あたまの中にその華やかな風景を想像して、準備させる。しかしその次の瞬間「なかりけり」と、その美しさは打ち消される。そうなんです。初めからなにもなかった風景に華やかな場面を思い想像した分、寂しさが増すと感じられる。この藤原定家の詩を読み解けば自ずと日本の文化、そしてみんな大好き茶の湯、千利休をも理解が深まることであろう。日本の和歌は、少ない言葉で最高に洒落た表現をする芸術であろう。西洋の詩とは異なると判断される方もいるかもしれないが…実は最近の日本人にとって必要性がないと…それが『侘び寂び』であろうか？もしも、興味を持った方は個別に解説いたします。もう少しまともな文章でわかりやすく言語化致します。この辺りの霊妙な匙加減は、存外外国人の仏教徒の方が理解されているかもしれないとも思っている。一昔前は、一般教養として当然誰しもが知る社会通念上の一般常識であった筈が、すでにオトーチャンの世代でも興味がなければ、古典…微妙な感じ？かもしれないと思う残念なこの頃である。今日何でも白黒に分別しそのことに縛られ物事を判断することに、オトーチャンは敢えて注意を促したい。仏教の『禅』由来の『侘び、寂び』は、現在には😱、尊い潔さが内在し、まさに言葉の妙技と言えよう。

Now, Oto-chan was watching a Thai TV commercial. What does he get in return.for doing this every day? He gets nothing. He won’t be richer. Won’t appear onTV. Still anonymous. And not bit more famous. What he does receive are emotions. He witnesses happiness. Reaches a deeper understanding. Feels the love. Receives what money can’t buy. A world made more beautiful. And in your life? What is it that you desire most? … Even though it was a TV commercial and it was from a different culture than Japan where I live, there was something about that short commercial that touched my heart. I wonder if the mental and physical effects of stress, such as anger or sadness, physical fatigue, or having to continue doing something difficult for some reason, are causing stress that upsets my peace of mind and makes me feel bad for myself and others!
