While pieces to be exhibited are normally decided upon in advance and the space is designed to accentuate those elements, the client proposed to reverse the approach by instead using the design of the space as inspiration to create the ikebana pieces that would be exhibited there. A tiered stone garden created by Isamu Noguchi would serve as the exhibition venue, and making the most of this unique space would become an essential part of the design. 0.5mm thick stainless steel sheet with a mirror finish was cut into pieces shaped like collections of linked rhombuses. Each piece was then individually fitted to overlay the stone garden in order to create an “ivy of mirrors”. The watch normally worn on the wrist can be inserted into a specially created stand, that looks like a wall clock, and enjoyed as an interior accessory.A typical cuckoo clock-like appearance enabled the wrist watch to visually blend into the wall clock, and to enhance this integrated expression, the digits were placed to extend outside the dial. The incompleteness of the face characterized the design of this watch, and offered a feeling that it was a “piece that was cut out from a wall clock”. The body was finished with matte white to blend in with the interior, and pink gold was used as an accent for parts such as the letters and hands. Its weight totals at 486 tons, with a capacity for 23 crew members. To catch bigeye and bluefin tuna, the crew spends 10 months of hard labor at sea, where mental and physical stress is generally said to result in a turnover rate exceeding 50 percent among its younger crew. And so, the request was to design a fishing vessel that contributes to relieving the stress and attracts the young members. In this way, “factors of play” were extracted and converted into respective vehicular forms that can be freely combined to realize various ways to play. The company also conducts projects on urban infrastructure development and community-building through the sports industry including management of a professional baseball team, as well as services leveraging AI technology, and utilization of autonomous driving technology. By gathering the know-how from these three new businesses, a collaborative project of “a car of the near future that plays with children” was developed. The AI technology suggests new ways to play learned from similar situations in the past, while ensuring children’s safety using autonomous driving technology. The project aims to revitalize communities by making rounds through parks or “coen” in Japanese, open spaces, kindergartens, and the like. One of the perks may be how they look driving in a line like circus cars on the road. Also, the dedicated app enables users to stay up-to-date on where the cars are driving now and what time they’re arriving at nearby parks. Gathering enough people to call the cars may be another option. With cutting-edge technology, the project aimed to create a new relationship between people and cars that is more than a just means for transportation. A Chagama is shaped like a rotated U-shaped cross-section, so a form with the same U-shaped cross-section was prepared. By slightly pinching the end, it can be used as a spout, a Tokkuri (sake vessel) or a soy sauce pitcher, or as a vase to hold flowers or branches. Finally, the vessel was finished with tetsu urushi mentioned above, by the 16th Generation Onishi Seiwemon. The inside of the vessel is finely textured with less iron powder, and on the outside, the amount of iron powder is increased to create a more textured and rougher surface, giving it a different look on the inside and outside. The drawings on the floor flow like river water around the exhibition stands. ‘dancing squares’ is a collection based on the concept of ‘active white’, so we wanted a space that expressed the idea of ‘still white on black’. The height and form of the light can be easily changed by adding and rearranging the components. By attaching the wire unit to the shade, it becomes a pendant lamp. We pressed punched metal to create a transparent chair with a seemingly soft back rest, and placed it in the main entrance and ten other locations within the museum including galleries, staircases and corridors. For each location, we modified the chair to mimic the particular space and objects with which it was placed, so that it accords with its environment. As its transactions are predominantly business-to-business, it is a company rarely seen by the ordinary consumer. Inevitably, that it supports our daily lives in a whole range of different ways is a relatively little known fact. In his advertising strategy for the company, Nendo decided on an image based solely on its company logo; the letters ‘IHI’ in blue font. This idea originally came about from the resemblance of the logo letters to the steel I- and H-beams used in construction. Just as structural steel is used to construct buildings, this concept allowed us to put together a variety of visual images. Each image comes with a single statement. The corresponding TV commercial is also composed entirely of the logo, with no voiceover or captions whatsoever. In contrast to this the backrest has a single and simple ‘fold’ line. This form is the result of an experimental process with various types of paper that was then incorporated into the development of the chair. By adding this horizontal line, the intention was that the soft form of the chair would sit more comfortably with the horizontal surface of a table. As well as this the “fold” line creates a visible continuation from one chair to the next when they are positioned side by side. The same crease also has benefits to the comfort of the chair, firmly supporting the lower back whilst also creating space and a relaxed feeling around the waist. The thickness of the backrest also enhances the comfort, fine adjustments have been made from the top to the base of the shell creating flexibility whilst giving sufficient strength and support. However, to enable a finer grinding and to bring out the aromatic qualities, the simple method of a Mortar and pestle was utilized. This device, that was used since ancient times by pharmacists, scientists, and chefs all over the world, was more suited to the project than the typical approach. The object consists of a round glass container filled with pepper that sits on top of a base made from the same material. When used, the dried peppercorns are poured out of the container to the top of the base. The bottom of the container is then used as a “pestle” and its base is used as the “mortar” in order to ground the pepper manually. The container, with its slightly indented central section, is easy to grip, and has a bottom that is thicker than the rest of the body, improving its strength. The ridges on the top surface of the base and underside of the container are a result of rigorous testing to make for an easy pepper grinding. #nendodesign #okisato #glass #glasses #mat #kitchenware #kitchen #tableware #product2023/06/13に公開#nendodesign#okisato#glass#glasses#mat#kitchenware#kitchen#tableware#product1.15%2,0300MY FOOTBALL KIT / GOAL KIT 過去にスポーツ用品メーカーのモルテンのためにデザインした「MY FOOTBALL KIT」。組み立て式の簡易的なサッカーボールを通じて、学習やスポーツの魅力を体感することを目的とし、世界の多くの子供たちの手に届けている。その第二弾として、子供たちが楽しみながら組み立てられるゴールを開発。今回のキットは、子供でも扱える長さや重さの２種類の木材と４種類のパーツで構成され、木材は、一般的に流通するツーバイツーの規格サイズを採用した。そのため、将来的には販売先の地域で現地調達を可能とし、配送コストや環境負荷の軽減が見込める。工具を一切使用せず組み立てられるデザインとした。 正面からボールを入れる一般的なゴールだけでなく、オリジナルな形もつくり出せるようになっている。上から得点するゴール、人数や体格の異なる子供たちが一緒に楽しめるハンデ付きゴール、３つのチームが同時にプレイできるゴール、ボールを入れた場所で得点が異なるマス目のあるゴールなど、子供たちの想像力を自由に羽ばたかせて「新しい遊びをつくる」デザインとなった。 MY FOOTBALL KIT / BALL KIT, a product previously designed for sporting equipment manufacturer Molten, is now enjoyed by many children around the world as a way to experience the fascination of learning and sports through a simplified, assemblable football. Developed as the second product of this series, is the football goal for children to enjoy assembling by themselves. The new kit consists of two lengths of timber easy for children to handle and four types of fixing components. The use of standardized 2×2 lumber, a commonly distributed size, is expected to enable local procurement in the sales destination in the future, thereby reducing delivery costs and environmental impact. The four parts are made of a synthetic resin mixture of softened recycled polypropylene and elastomer, for breakage and injury prevention. It is also tool-free. The exhibition theme ‘Words’, asked designers to consider the relationship between language and design. We chose the word ‘rain’, but considered its many nuances in Japanese, a language that has dozens of words for rain depending on the condition and time of day, as a way to reflect the fine nuances and sensibilities of Japanese as a language. The exhibit consists of clear acrylic bottles lined-up, each containing a different kind of ‘rain’. ’Kirisame’, ‘biu’ and ‘kosame’ refer to different degrees of fine drizzle, while ‘niwaka-ame’ is a sudden downpour. ‘Mizore’ is sleet, and a ‘yudachi’ falls in the evening. ‘Kisame’ is rain that drips from the ends of tree branches, and ‘kaiu’ is rain that falls mixed with dust and pollen. We also included seasonal rains, from the ‘samidare’ that falls in the spring, to ‘shigure’, rain specific to autumn and winter.
