Their bodies, their subjectivities, are composed of pathways that need careful guarding and constant negotiation, just as feelings, memories and emotions pour out from each of us and complicate all kinds of encounters. It is this energetic dualism that defines our cultural, social and economic worlds and that we can reshape by uttering our intentions, asking questions, formulating ideas and committing to lofty abstractions. By doing this, we might open up nasty wounds behind our hearts, and name the layers of love and loss that animate us, that reveal how our vulnerability is not a weakness but rather a place from which we compose new ways of being in the world and with each other, as friends, family, workmates and lovers ... or all at the same time. (in an interview with AnOther Mag) At Unseen, @stieglitz19 from Antwerp will present a solo exhibition of the Chinese artist Lin Zhipeng, with works produced during the covid period. The Beijing-based photographer became a renowned figure in China's online community when he launched his blog North Latitude 23 in 2003, which has received millions of views since. Through this platform, he presented spontaneous photographs of his friends in provocative and unrestrained poses, capturing a youthful generation's craving for freedom, experimentation and love in a conservative society. Lin's work depicts an alternative youth culture in China, balancing chaos, eroticism and a lust for life. Zhipeng showed his work extensively in China and abroad at MEP Paris, the Delaware Contemporary Museum, the Walther Collection, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and Saint Laurent's Rive Droite, under the curation of Anthony Vaccarello, the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent. Body, sex, youth - the works of Chinese photographer Lin Zhipeng aka No.223, who has debuted for nearly 20 years, have left such an impression on many people. In addition to these "tags", he enjoys stopping on the road, holding a camera to observe scarabs on mandala leaves, or flower clusters that look like certain body organs, and waiting for the upcoming waves. During these moments, he presses the shutter again and again. The photobook Skinny Wave published by Same Paper for No.223 contains the seemingly insignificant photos that he has taken since 2009. In the title, he used the word “skinny” to describe the soft waves, in order to tell the incompliant romance in his photos, as well as the contradictory feelings of softness and sharpness. It is an emotionally moralistic title which measures your personal and professional productivity in relation to feelings of guilt, shame, anger and despair and to matters of connection, care for others, and care for yourself. The work of each artist in this exhibition exists almost like an experiential, literary tale – one that opens out our experience of love and longing, loneliness, and loss. We are invited to contemplate how our understanding of these tangled, at times tortuous notions shape our relationships to the world as collectives, as pairs and as other social assemblies. The exhibition reveals how deeply enmeshed our bodies, and the subjective forces of love and desire, are within the fantasies of ‘the good life’. Bringing together works in video, photography, painting and sculpture by Hai-Hsin Huang, Daisuke Kosugi, Pixy Liao, Lin Zhipeng (aka No.223), Rinko Kawauchi, Sejin Kim, Lieko Shiga, and Tao Hui, the exhibition articulates the ways that people are fragile, finite. Their bodies, their subjectivities, are composed of pathways that need careful guarding and constant negotiation, just as feelings, memories and emotions pour out from each of us and complicate all kinds of encounters. It is this energetic dualism that defines our cultural, social and economic worlds and that we can reshape by uttering our intentions, asking questions, formulating ideas and committing to lofty abstractions. By doing this, we might open up nasty wounds behind our hearts, and name the layers of love and loss that animate us, that reveal how our vulnerability is not a weakness but rather a place from which we compose new ways of being in the world and with each other, as friends, family, workmates and lovers … or all at the same time.2022/11/18に公開- 指定なし0.99%6359Soft Flying.
