I stumbled upon this beautiful café run by an owner who originally had a shop in Kanagawa, but moved here a few years ago to open a new space— a quiet coffee stand focused on organic, pesticide-free roasted beans. As you can probably tell from the photos, the location is breathtaking: surrounded by rice fields, traditional countryside homes, and views of the Southern Alps like Mt. Komagatake and Mt. Houou. It honestly felt like stepping into a Ghibli film. The owner told me the scenery shifts beautifully with the seasons. It was already summer when I visited in late June, but I can only imagine how stunning it must be in autumn or winter— golden rice fields or snow-covered peaks? Yes, please. I had an iced hand-drip coffee made with their signature beans, and wow—it was so good. To be honest, I’m often let down by the quality of coffee at cafes, but this one really impressed me. Smooth, full of flavor, and zero bitterness. One thing to note: seating is all outdoors, so weather matters! But even with that, I’d say this café is 100% worth visiting at least once. Scattered across 50,000 m² of lush nature are around 20 private villas. Upon entering the room, you’re greeted by the grandeur of Hakone’s natural landscape through the windows. There’s even a fireplace, perfect for relaxing in the winter while watching the flickering flames. Each villa comes with its own open-air hot spring bath. Being able to enjoy a hot spring anytime, in the midst of nature, without being disturbed by anyone—this felt like the ultimate luxury. At night, I had a full course dinner centered around innovative wood-fired cuisine. The wood-roasted retired dairy cow beef was especially impressive. I had visited here before, but I heard the café had been renewed, so I decided to return! What struck me first was the breathtaking Japanese garden. In this season, hydrangeas are in full bloom and truly stunning. In early summer, fresh greenery; in autumn, fiery foliage—the garden transforms beautifully throughout the year. As you pass through the garden, a sukiya-style residence appears. Originally built about 370 years ago in Kyoto as an imperial villa, it was relocated to Kamakura several decades ago. It’s now recognized as a National Important Cultural Property. Inside the café, the view of the garden through the windows is just mesmerizing. The newly reopened café is “Niohmon Kamakura Bettei,” a branch of a Kyoto wagashi shop with 70 years of history. I ordered the warabi mochi, zenzai, and tea set. Just over 2 hours from Tokyo by plane and train. I absolutely love Sapporo. Snowboard,food,sake, is always amazing, everything’s reasonably priced, and the nightlife is vibrant. There are two things that make this hotel great: its richly layered interiors, and its unbeatable value. First, the interior. Both the shared spaces and rooms have a classical, grand design. You’ll even find ceiling murals in the lobby and original works by artists like Salvador Dalí scattered throughout the building. And second—value for money. All rooms are 36m² or more, and the hotel includes a sauna, large public bath, gym, and a lavish breakfast buffet. The hotel is riverside, so taking a morning walk along the bank is refreshing. And despite all the amenities and rich atmosphere, prices start at around ¥12,000 per person per night, with breakfast included. It reminded me: whether it’s a hotel or anything else, continuing something over the years—and passing it on—is incredibly hard. But because it’s hard, what survives takes on a deeper value. Many of you might already know this, but it’s located at the summit of the famous “Hottarakashi Onsen (campground).” For those worried about the access, don’t be! It’s a short 5-minute walk up an asphalt slope from the parking lot, so it’s not too tough. Once you step inside, the stunning view right in front of you leaves you speechless… The interior has a mountain lodge vibe, but the lighting and furniture are so stylish—it’s really well-designed! The house-roasted coffee and café lattes were rich and flavorful, and the hojicha latte was also delicious. I only had coffee this time, but I’ve heard their pizza and pasta are also excellent! You can hear the sound of the wind rustling through the grass and the evening cicadas chirping. Without looking at your phone, just sipping coffee while taking in the view makes you want to stay there forever. It’s rare to find a place like that, don’t you think? This cafe is operated by AMAN, one of the world's most luxurious hotel brands, founded in 1987 by Indonesian Adrian Zecha. As soon as you step inside, you'll feel the luxurious atmosphere. The interior is also magnificent! With floor-to-ceiling glass windows, plenty of sunlight filters through, casting a gentle glow on the surrounding trees. On this day, we had made a reservation for the lunch course in advance. The course included appetizers, salmon confit, braised beef cheek, soup, dessert, and a drink. Everything was delicious! The price is just over 6,000 yen. Perception of value varies, but considering the Aman brand, the location, and the quality of the food, this price is quite reasonable. The nearby Marunouchi Illumination can be enjoyed until February 18th. Indulge in a luxurious moment, savoring your meal and coffee while gazing at the greenery outside the window, and taking a break from the daily hustle and bustle.
