Events can appear either accidental or inevitable. People use different words to frame them. Some call them miracles; others call them destiny. . These days, I pay less attention to the events themselves and more to how they rise — to the structure behind their emergence. Things that were once unseen become visible. When I witness them, my field of view expands, along with the way I think and the range of what comes into view. . What looks accidental from a distance reveals its reasons when looked at more closely. Once those reasons are understood, the event no longer appears accidental. . I simply walk toward the place where something begins to take shape. I decide where to stand. Recap: Japan Leica User Group Photo Exhibition 2026 . Two years ago, I walked into a photo exhibition in Shibuya by chance. I was moved and joined the Japan Leica User Group (JLUG) on the spot. This year, I had an opportunity to exhibit one image. I only shared it via Stories, but I truly appreciate everyone who took the time to come. I focus here on the print itself. . The theme was open. Since I could print larger than usual, I revisited a photo taken in Hong Kong while sheltering from sudden rain. When I printed it casually on plain copy paper, the colors and details were unstable—yet the atmosphere felt real. It reminded me of a large Calcutta print by Steve McCurry I saw in Wetzlar. I decided to trust that feeling. . I tried rougher paper to capture the humid air that fogged my lens and the soaked intensity of the squall. Though I’ve worked with color proofs and press checks, I had never applied that process to my own photographs. Collaborating with the printer felt nostalgic and exciting. . Choosing the right paper and output method, I worked to close the gap between the result I had in mind and what actually emerged. Thoughts about how this could serve my work intruded—but the growing presence of the print swept them away. Looking back at the digital file, it felt completely different. I couldn’t tell which was true. Despite the time I spent refining it, in front of the print, it still felt shallow. . Now that I’ve discovered the joy of printing, I suppose I’ll slowly sink into a new swamp. . 一昨年、渋谷を歩いていて偶然見つけた写真展で、立ち寄って感動し、そのまま入会してしまった日本のライカユーザーグループJLUG。今回、その2年に1度のグループ展に出展させていただきました。Storiesでしか告知していませんが、見に来てくださった方、ありがとうございました。ここでは自分のプリントにフォーカスして記録を残しておきたい。 . テーマは自由。少し大きめにプリントできる機会だったので、以前香港で雨宿りしながら撮った写真を追い込んでみた。何気なくコピー用紙にプリントしてみると、色もディテールも不安定だったが、雰囲気は驚くほどリアルだった。ヴェッツラーで見たSteve McCurryのコルカタの大きなプリントを思い出して、これで行こうと決めた。 . レンズが曇る蒸し暑さとスコールの濡れた空気を表現できないかと、ザラザラした紙にトライした。仕事では色校正も刷り出し立ち会いも散々してきたのに、自分の写真に使ったことはなかった。プリントを詰めていくプロセスは懐かしく楽しかった。 . 紙や出力方式を選びながら、想像するあがりと現実のギャップを埋めていく。仕事に応用できるかという邪念も差し込むが、プリントはみるみる迫力を増す。最終形を見た後にデジタルを見ると、あまりにも違う。どちらが本当なのか分からなくなる。時間をかけたのに、プリントの前ではまだ浅い。 . プリントの楽しみを知ってしまった。新しい沼に少しずつ足を埋めていく。 . . . . . #LeicaSL3 #aposummicron35 #myleicaphoto

Berliner Dom (1894-1905) . I really wanted to stop by this place before heading to the airport, so I left early and dragged my heavy luggage to the cathedral I had seen during a photo walk the other day. I was also curious about the museum next door, but with limited time, I had to choose just one. . Even from the outside, its grandeur and sheer scale took my breath away. I’ve written about this before, but the difference in scale compared to religious architecture in my home country isn’t about which is better. It’s the result of what has been built up over time, and that’s what makes both so fascinating. . It felt as if some immense, invisible force was descending from above. My mouth stayed open the entire time—I was simply overwhelmed. The soles of my feet were covered in blisters, bloody even, yet somehow the pain itself felt blessed, wrapped in a strange sense of joy. I came because I wanted to take photographs, but I wasn’t there after while to enjoy composing images. Perhaps it was enough just to become part of the air itself. . I hadn’t realized I could even climb all the way up to the top of the dome. In hindsight, I probably should have done a bit more research before going in. Berlin is like that—the more I look into it, the more unknown details emerge. Even staying for two weeks, I doubt I could fully exhaust it. It was that kind of city, endlessly stirring my curiosity. . ベルリンの最後、どうしてもここだけは寄ってから飛行機に乗りたくて、早めに出て重いトランクを引きずりながらフォトウォークの時に見た大聖堂へ。隣の博物館も気になったが、時間的にひとつにした。 . 外から見てもその荘厳さと大きさに息を呑む。前にも書いたが、日本の宗教建築とのスケールの違いは、比較してどちらが良いということではなく、積み上げた結果としてそれぞれがとても興味深い。 . 天から何か大きな見えない力が降りてくる。終始口は開きっぱなしで、ただただ感動した。足の裏は水膨れだらけで、血まみれだけど、痛みさえもが祝福されているかのように喜びが感じられた。写真は撮りたくてきたけど、絵づくりを楽しみたいわけではなくなっていた。もはや空気の一部になるだけで満足だったのだろう。 . それにしても、ドームの上まで登ったりできるとは思わなかった。もうちょっと調べてから入った方がいいかもと反省。ベルリンは他にも調べれば調べるほどどんどん知らない情報が出てきて、２週間くらいいてもたぶん行き尽くせない気がする。そのくらい、好奇心をくすぐられる街だった。 . . . . . #leicaSL3 #elmarittl18 #myleicaphoto

Through my work, I’ve come to see the ideas of “teaching” and “educating” through structures of marketing and branding. Since then, I’ve stopped accepting so-called educational materials at face value. Information can sometimes go too far—shaping behavior itself. . Words / edited photographs compiled by people who may never have seen the place often get truths distorted when they are transferred. From these, I built images in my mind through my own limited imagination. Storytelling also amplifies them. . As a child, this was simply a place I memorized—watching news, tracing words in textbooks without much interest. When I finally stood there, I couldn’t fully process what I was seeing. The image that had expanded in my mind collapsed in an instant. Words spoken without personal verification or digestion are often clouded, and can even become harmful sometimes. . Why does this wall still remain in this form today? After standing there in a daze, I found myself raising my camera so that East and West would fit into a single frame. It was an action I can hardly explain that I surely wouldn’t have taken without knowing the history. Looking back at the photographs, I couldn't fill the gap between the knowledge in my mind and the reality. It’s clear that I haven’t fully absorbed it yet. In other words, this remains something that requires further confirmation. . 仕事柄、「教える」「育てる」という概念を、マーケティングやブランディングの構造としても捉えうる視点をあわせ持つようになってから、いわゆる教材というものを鵜呑みにすることがなくなった。話者の発信力、受け手の吸収力、そして両者が接する時の浸透圧によって、認知からナーチャリングといったステップの中で、情報は時に行きすぎたかたちで入り込み、人の行動にまで影響を及ぼしうる。 . 言葉の端々や、実際に見たことのない誰かが編纂したであろう加工された写真、尾鰭がついたり端折ったり、少しずつ歪みながら、世代を超えて伝わる真実。それを未経験で受け取るがままに、拙い想像力で脳内で補完し作り上げてきたイメージ。ストーリーテリングはなおさらたちが悪い。伝わりやすさに浸透圧とは別の加速度を与え、副作用としてバイアスをかけて受け取られてしまう。 . 幼い頃、無関係な日常の中でニュース映像を眺め、テストに出るからと教科書で言葉と文脈をなぞり、さして興味もないまま記憶にこびり付いている場所がある。実際に訪れてみると、現実を受け止めきれず、ただ呆然としてしまった。長い間頭の中で反芻され、期待と恐怖で膨らみに膨らんだ虚像が一瞬で崩れ去る。何事も鵜呑みにしてはならない。自らの目でできる範囲のファクトチェックをする。咀嚼しないまま口をついて出始める言葉は、虚構という濁りを多分に含み、時には有害にさえなりうる。 . この壁は、なぜ今もこのように残されているのか。しばらく呆然とした後、壁の切れ目を隔てて、東と西が一枚に収まるように、なぜかカメラを構える。史実を知らなければきっと取らなかった、理解に苦しむ行動だ。そもそも自分は、何を学んできたのだろうか。わずか数分その場所に立ち得られた自分の写真を見返し、脳内に積み重なった知識と現実とのギャップに戸惑う。受け止めをできていないのは明らかである。つまりは「要再確認」事項だ。

Yuto Yamada aka @tokio_kid —visiting him was one of the main purposes of this stay in Berlin. He didn’t just show me around town—he even welcomed me into his home and let me photograph him. The natto rice and miso soup I had there, for the first time in a while, quietly sank in. I wanted to leave a document of that time. Once again, thank you for such a generous and precious opportunity 🙏 . When I raised the camera, of course, I was conscious that I was taking his portrait. I wanted to photograph him as a person, as honestly as I could. But after releasing the shutter for a few times, I began to realize something: what appeared in the images was not only his figure, but also my own gaze toward him—and the place itself. It’s difficult to put into words. Perhaps, in the end, the photographs had captured our relationship, or a certain kind of admiration I hold. . After noticing that, I stopped chasing his face straight on. At some point, it felt as though the main subject had quietly shifted. I found myself following him, releasing the shutter. Although he was undoubtedly the subject, the images also felt like photographs of myself combined with other shots I took. And the flow of time itself was broken down into fractions of a second, translated into a handful of frames. That is why I find record photographs endlessly fascinating. . 彼を訪ねることは、今回のベルリン滞在の大きな目的のひとつだった。街を案内していただくだけでなく、家に招いて写真を撮らせていただいた。久しぶりに食べた、彼の家での納豆ごはんが沁みた。そのときの記録を残しておきたい。あらためて、貴重な機会をありがとうございました。 . カメラを向けるとき、当然ながら彼のポートレート（肖像）を撮っている、という意識をもって臨んでいた。人物としての彼を、できるだけ誠実に写したいと思っていた。ただ、何枚かシャッターを切って気づいたのは、写っていたのが彼の姿であると同時に、彼に向けられた自分の視線であり、その場そのものだったということだ。言葉にするのが難しい。それは結果的に、自分と彼との関係性、ある種の憧れのようなものを写し取っていたのかもしれない。 . それに気づいてからは、彼の正面を追わなくなった。いつのまにか主役が入れ替わっていたような感覚を覚えながら、姿を追うようにシャッターを切っていた。自分が歩いて得られる写真と相まって、被写体は彼でこそあれ、自分自身の写真でもあるように思えた。そして一連の時間が、何十分の一秒、何百分の一秒という単位に分解され、いくつかの写真に置き換わり、積み重なっていく。だから記録写真は楽しくてしかたがないのだ。 . . . . . #leicaSL3 #summilux50 #leicam10d #summilux35 #summicron35mm6element

Another mission in Berlin was to see the DB building. Long ago, while working on a collaborative edit (the 2nd img) with Yuto aka @tokio_kid for Instagram, I found myself strongly wanting to see it with my own eyes. Crazy, just ten years had passed. The fact such period of time had gone by still feels strangely shocking. . Early on a Sunday morning—this time, with little time to spare—I headed to the building across the street, Panoramapunkt, bought a ticket and went up to the top. I thought I might feel a sense of arrival, but standing there battered by strong winds that erased the warmth of the coffee I had just downed, I didn’t have much room for that. Shivering in the cold, I pressed the shutter, methodically. . I wasn’t particularly driven by the urge to make a perfect image. I’ll probably come back to photograph the scene I really imagined—at night, with people working inside the building. I chose to leave something undone, trusting I wouldn’t regret it too much. Once I got a sense of distance to Berlin, the feeling of urgency quietly faded. To myself from ten years ago, who couldn’t stop wondering what surrounded this building, I would say: I saw it. Around. That’s probably enough. . Over the past decade, countless places like this have accumulated, both at home and abroad. This one ranks fairly low in terms of difficulty. The more I learn, the more the question grows—will I ever make it to all of them? Trying to keep that swelling sense of urgency in check, I move on to the next place. . ベルリン滞在の目的のひとつは、この国鉄ビルを見ることだった。その昔、インスタでYutoさんとお互いのエディットでコラボ投稿をしようと、彼の写真を触っていたとき、肉眼で見たいと強く思ったのだ。気づけばちょうど10年。こんなに経ってしまったという事実は衝撃的である。 . 日曜朝早く (今回はもう時間がない) 向い側のビル、Panoramapunktへ。展望台のチケットを買って上に上がる。ようやく来たという実感に少しは心が動くかと思っていたが、近くのカフェで朝一で体内に注入してきたコーヒーが吹き飛ぶほどの強い風に吹かれ、寒さに身震いしながら淡々とシャッターを押す。 . 夜、中の人が仕事をしている絵を見にきっとまた来るだろう。撮らなくてももう大して後悔しなかろうと、敢えてやり残しを置いておく。ベルリンに来るとはこういうこと、という距離感を掴むと、焦りは同時に消えていく。このビルの周りがどうなっているのかを見てみたくて仕方がなかった当時の自分には、ちゃんと見てきたぞ、まあこんなもんだと伝えたいものだ。 . この10年で、同じように気になる場所は国内外に無数に増えてしまった。ここはその中でも難易度はかなり低い方だ。知れば知るほど、全部に間に合うのか、という、膨らむ焦りを抑えるように、次に向かう。 . . . . . #leicam10d #summicron35mm6element #leicaSL3 #sigma17mm #myleicaphoto

On New Year’s Day, I walked through Center Gai for the first time in months. Construction coverings had come down. A building that had long housed a fast-food restaurant was now a burger shop; an Okinawan soba place had turned into a jewelry brand’s flagship store. Most of the people walking around were tourists from overseas. Seeing how much the streetscape had changed brought back a sense of freshness. Once the switch flips, my feet start moving on their own. . Ever since visiting Hong Kong, Shibuya had stopped feeling stimulating to me—but this time, it felt closer than expected to that earlier sense of excitement. When new buildings appear, new entrances open to draw people in. New flows of people create new ways of seeing. A maze you thought you had already cleared, redesigned, becomes something you can’t help but try again. . The redevelopment project that began in 2018 was supposed to finish around 2027. When I looked it up, I found it had been pushed back to 2034. Scaffolding erected years ago now carried the marks of weather and time. The station building I photographed last year had mostly been dismantled, exposing the Yamanote Line platforms to view from outside. Even the spots I used to photograph from fixed positions had quietly disappeared, blocked by newly erected structures. — The number of photos I’ve taken but haven’t fully digested will probably grow by another year’s worth. Even so, I’ll keep walking this year—starting again from somewhere in the middle. . 元旦は数カ月ぶりにセンター街へ。工事中の養生が外され、長年ファストフード店だった場所はバーガーショップに、沖縄そばの店はジュエリーブランドの路面店に。歩いているのはほとんどが海外からのツーリスト。見た目が大きく変わった街に、また新鮮味が湧いてくる。スイッチが入ると、自然と足が動き始める。 . 香港に行ってからというもの、渋谷には刺激を感じなくなってしまっていたのだけど、思いのほかその時の感動に近いものを感じた。新しい建物が立つと、客を呼び込むために別の入口が開くことがある。新しい人の流れは、新しい視点を同時に生む。クリアしたはずの迷宮が新デザインで復活すると、また挑戦せずにはいられない。 . 2018年に始まった再開発プロジェクトは、たしか2027年に終わるはずだった。進んでいないと思って調べると、2034年に延期されていた。数年前に組まれた足場にも風雨にさらされた時間が刻まれ、去年撮っていた駅舎はほぼ解体され、山手線のホームが外から見えるようになった。定点で撮っていた場所も、いつの間にか新しい足場に塞がれ、カメラを置けなくなっていた。 -- 撮りすぎて消化できない写真は、また一年分増えていきそうです。途中から始めつつ、今年も歩きます。 . . . . . #LeicaSL3 #Summilux35 #myleicaphoto

Very belated log here but finally caught up—in Berlin, I joined a photo walk hosted by @philjahner , and many people from @try.glass . Thank you for bringing it together. I also appreciate the warm welcome from everyone I met on the walk! @devinspx @tmendable @twojing @gero.kero @myobie . Exploring an unfamiliar city with a camera, good coffee, and generous company felt like a rare kind of bliss—one that quietly opened all my senses at once. Wandered at night, carrying only my camera, letting a long-missed sense of exhilaration settle back in. . Signs I couldn’t read, words I could only half-guess, people laughing while pointing, men muttering something through alcohol-heavy breath—each encounter arrived with its own blend of curiosity and unease. . Not knowing what anyone was saying turned out to be a kind of advantage. The uncertainty felt lighter than when every word makes sense. Once the feeling of being the outsider fades, familiarity takes over, and the edge of the experience fades with it. . The photos I took hold the traces of that restless excitement. What sits behind it isn’t visible, and I can’t describe it clearly, yet only I can retrieve it. That quiet, persistent pull is why I keep coming back to them. On my way to Berlin. Everything in an unfamiliar place feels new. Later, none of it will seem extraordinary, but in the moment—even during a simple transfer—I can’t help but yield to whatever appears in my field of view. . Frankfurt station was truly photogenic. On my way from Paris to Wetzlar, I had only twenty minutes there—far too little. It left me wanting more, so on the way from Wetzlar to Berlin I came back again, making a detour. . I booked a later train so I could have two hours to wander. It was a good stretch of time, but not nearly enough. To truly take it in, I’d need three nights. In the end, I had to watch the clock and head for Berlin. . I realized I must really love stations. To step off somewhere new, wander a bit, frame scenes by instinct, and eventually find something to eat—so many desires met at once. . Maybe this is what drives me to travel alone. It’s nothing more than being captive to pleasure. For each person it takes a different form, but when four or so primal urges are awakened at once, how can anyone resist? . フランクフルト駅は本当にフォトジェニックだった。パリからヴェッツラーに向かう時の20分では物足りず、ヴェッツラーからベルリンに向かう途中にまた戻ってきて寄り道をした。 . 電車をわざと遅らせて2時間歩き回ったが全然足りない。やはり納得いくには、3泊必要だ。結局、時計を気にしながらベルリンへ向かった。 . それにしても自分は駅が好きらしい。新しい駅で降りて、ぶらついて、直感的に見た景色を切り取り、なんとか食べ物にありつく。あらゆる欲求が同時に満たされる。 . 多分これが、自分をひとり旅に突き動かすモノの正体じゃないかと思う。つまり、快楽の虜になっているだけなんだろう。人によってそれは違う形で現れるのだろうけど。同時に四つくらい本能的欲求を喚起されると、人はもうそれには抗えないのではないだろうか。 . . . . . #leicam10d #summicron35mm6element #myleicaphoto

It’s been a while, but this was a highlight of the trip—a stop at @leica_welt in Wetzlar. (The visit was more months ago, it's the before-festival mood of Leica 100th anniversary events, now often seen on social media,.) . Wetzlar had long been on my list. To understand a brand that shaped photo culture for over a century, I felt I had to go. When I had a chance to return to Europe, I added it to my itinerary without hesitation. . The place itself was steeped in history. Everywhere were photographs that testified to history, quotes from pioneers of the craft. I found myself pausing at every turn to take it all in. It was a new kind of experience for me. . I stayed one night and joined a guided tour. Once the guide learned about my background, he tailored the commentary to focus more on design—a thoughtful touch that made the entire tour deeply personal. The photography exhibition in the museum, too, was filled with iconic images that have shaped the history of photography culture. I was simply in awe. . That visit undoubtedly reshaped how I see and approach photography. The boundary between images made for others and documents for myself became much clearer. . What I got is just a small dot within the hundred-plus-year history. Still, I was able to feel and reflect quite a bit. How far should I keep exploring this path of nostalgia? I’ll keep using Leica cameras, for sure—but I now feel that I’m beginning to reach an understanding of what lies within the realms of my own imagination. . だいぶ経ってしまったが、旅のハイライトの1つ、途中でLeitz Parkを訪れたときの記録。（SNSで見られるライカ100周年イベントの数ヶ月前のことなので、お祭りムードの前の雰囲気です） . Wetzlarはいくつか決めていた目的地のひとつである。写真文化を生み育てながら100年続くブランドを理解するうえで、一度は行ってみなくてはと思っていた。ひさびさにヨーロッパに行くとなったタイミングで、迷わず経由地のひとつにいれた。 . 至る所に歴史を証明する写真と偉人たちの名言。ひとつひとつ立ち止まり噛み締めてしまう。こんな体験は初めてである。一泊して、申し込んでいたライツパークのツアーを満喫した。ガイドさんは私の職業を聞くと、それに合わせてツアーのスタイルを少し変化させて、終始デザイナー向けの説明をしてくれたのが本当に素晴らしかった。ミュージアムで開催されていた写真展も、カメラカルチャーの歴史の中の名画とも言うべき名作がズラッと並んでいて、これもただただ圧倒された。 . 改めて「写真」に対する自分の向き合い方に大きなアップデートがあったことは間違いない。人に見せるための写真と、自分の記録としての写真の境目はより明確になった。 100年ちょっとという歴史においては本当に微々たる程度にすぎないが、割と前のめりにいろいろと感じられた。「懐古」という文脈をこれ以上どこまで掘るべきか。ライカのカメラはこれからも使い続けるけれど、想像が及ぶ領域に理解が届いてきた感覚がある。 . . . . . #leicam10d #leicasl3 #myleicaphoto

It had been nearly 20 years since I last stayed in Paris. I wanted somewhere cheap—just a desk, a shower, and internet. If it was comfortable, all the better. In reality, most of those were lacking, but looking back, even that feels like a good memory. No matter how fluffy the bed was, I was too excited to sleep and usually dozed off at the desk. . I realized how far my everyday “normal” was from life here. Things I thought were essential weren’t available—but life went on fine without them. Maybe it’s worth living more minimally. Maybe there are other things I should be prioritizing. . I stayed for a week but didn’t go to the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, or even a single museum. Instead, I got curious about the subway system, major stations, and where people get groceries without convenience stores. I acted out of necessity. Maybe I admire everyone who isn’t me—maybe I just want to briefly live like someone else. . It’s hard to imagine coming back here in 20 years, lugging the same heavy cameras and lenses—roaming the city again. Maybe I’ll return sooner. Maybe I never will. Maybe I burned it all out. Or maybe it wasn’t nearly enough. I made discoveries I’d love to try again—but would I really come back just for that? . Maybe I’m still quietly searching for a reason to return. . 約20年ぶりにパリにいた。安宿に泊まりたかった。机、シャワー、インターネットだけあれば良い。それが快適であればなお良い。まあ実際は不便が多くて、必要なものが多く欠けていたが、今となってはそれもすべていい記憶である。ベッドはどんなにふかふかでも、気分は高揚しっぱなしでどうせ眠れず、たいていは机に突っ伏したまま朝を迎える。 . 普段の自分が、いかにここでの暮らしの“当たり前”とズレているか。ここでは、自分にとって不可欠だと思っていたものがなくても、日々はちゃんとまわっている。もっとミニマルに行くのもいいかもしれない。代わりに必要なものがあるかもしれない。 . 観光地にはやはり興味が沸かず、一週間滞在したが、ルーブルにも、凱旋門にも、エッフェル塔にも、一つの美術館にも行かなかった。代わりに興味を持ったのは、地下鉄がどんな構造になってるのかとか、大きな駅とか。コンビニの代わりにどんなところで食料や生活必需品を調達するのか。必要に迫られて行動をする。多分自分は自分以外のあらゆる人に憧れている。誰かになって生活を少しなぞってみたいのだろう。 . カメラとレンズ、重い塊をいくつも背負って20年後にまた同じようにここを訪ねて徘徊しているとは思えない。もしかしたら、もっと早く戻ってくるのかもしれないし、もうそのために来ることはないかもしれない。完全燃焼したとも言えるし、全然足りなかったとも言える。いろいろな発見があったから、それをまた試したいけど、そのためにまたここに来るだろうか。 . そう言いながら、次に訪れる理由をもう探している。 . . . . . #leicam10d #summicron35mm6element #elmar35mm #leicasl3 #aposummicron35 #elmarittl18mmf28 #myleicaphoto

I finally stepped inside a church I had only seen from the outside before. I’d left behind my widest lens—17mm—which I’d been using often lately. It was huge, vast, and beautiful. But as long as I could still picture it with my eyes closed later, that would be enough. . It turns out it was completed just a little over a hundred years ago. I hadn’t been here in twenty years. And now, I catch myself doing the math—five times this gap, and you get a century. I’m surprised by how my sense of time has shifted. . Compared to historic buildings in Japan, European religious architecture feels completely different in scale—like the difference between a continent and an island at its edge. Not better or worse, just fundamentally different. Maybe each form emerged in response to its land and its people. The domes I’d seen so many times from the outside felt even more distant when viewed from within. . I’m completely drawn to religious architecture now. It’s not just about size or grandeur. What moves me is the fact that, over generations, these spaces have been revered, held sacred, and returned to. What we see now—whether small, uneven, or worn—is shaped by the lives and prayers of countless people across time. That quiet accumulation—that’s where I find beauty. . In every age, the act of looking upward remains unchanged. The more I looked up, the more I felt the weight of time pressing down. . 以前、外から見ることしかできなかった寺院の中へ。最近時々使っていた一番ワイドな17mmさえ部屋においてきた。でかかったな、広かったなあ、きれいだったなあ、が、後で目を閉じて思い出せればそれでよい。 . 意外にも、竣工から100年ちょっとしかたっていない。来たのは20年ぶりで、今さらながらにこの5倍で100年か、などとそんなことを想像するようになった自分に驚く。 . ヨーロッパの宗教建築は、日本の歴史的建造物と見比べても、大陸と極東の外れの小さな島国の違いくらいスケール感が違ってみえる。大きさによる良し悪しの話ではなく、それぞれの特徴としての違いである。その風土、規模にあった形を追い求めた結果なのだろうか。外から見ていたいくつものドームが、中から見上げるとより遠くに感じる。 . 完全に宗教建築に魅せられてしまっている。ただ単に大きい、荘厳、ということではない。長い年月をかけてより多くの人々が崇め拠り所としてきたというその事実こそが魅力の本質なのだろう。その結果として今この目で見られるものは、小さかろうと、歪んでいようと、泥に塗れていようと、その経緯を積み重ねた佇まいそのものが美しい。 . どの時代にも、目を上げるという行為だけが、変わらずに残っている。見上げるほどに、時間の重みが降ってくるようだった。 . . . . . #leicasl3 #elmarittl18mmf28 #aposummicron35 #myleicaphoto #myleicajourney #throughyourleica #leicagram #leica_world #leicacommunity #leica #leicacamera #leicalowlight

The city looked different at night. It was still the same place I’d walked through during the day, but something in the air had shifted. The orange streetlights were soft, and too good to ignore. I woke up from a nap—not quite sure what time it was—and heard a drunk shouting outside. Still half-asleep, I found myself outside again. . I didn’t speak the language, and ordering felt clumsy, but I somehow ended up with a plate of something warm and familiar enough. Later, still unsteady, I wandered into a café and got a coffee—partly to wake up, partly just to pause before heading back. Coffee, for some reason, always feels cheaper here. . After a few nights of this, I stopped thinking in terms of “day” or “night.” I just followed light. Here, the sun stays up longer than it does back home. By the time dawn arrives, Tokyo has already had lunch and moved on. . I felt like my body wasn’t fighting time. Maybe this, too, is a kind of rhythm. Just not the one I’m used to. . I rarely feel jet lag anytime. Maybe I’ve just stopped noticing. Sometimes I meet someone who says the same thing, and it makes me feel a little less alone. It’s like I’ve been dreaming the whole time. . 昼間の景色が、夜は大きく違って見える。それにしても、街を包むオレンジの灯が最高すぎる。東京との時差は8時間、サマータイムで7時間。うたた寝から目覚めると、夜中であっても関係ない。窓の外から酔っ払いの叫び声が聞こえるが、外を歩かずにはいられない。 . 言葉が通じないながらになんとか好きなものを頼んでは食べ、千鳥足になりながら、別のカフェでコーヒーを飲んで意識を覚醒させては、また寄り道をしながら寝床に帰る。コーヒーだけはなぜか安い気がする。 . 朝になったら起きて、夜になったら眠る。そんな区切りではなく、昼と夜は、ただ太陽が出ているかどうかの違いにすぎないのかもしれない。そもそも、ここは東京よりだいぶ陽が長い。夜が明ける頃、向こうはランチが終わって本気モードだったりする。規則正しい生活とは。それはその規則次第だと気づく。続けばこれが規則正しい生活じゃないか。 . いつどこに行っても時差ボケを感じないのは、ずっとボケているのか、そういう感覚がないだけなのかもしれない。同じようなことを言う人に出会うと、ああ、自分だけじゃないんだ、と安堵し、嬉しくなる。ずっと夢の中にいるのだ。 . . . . . #leicasl3 #elmarittl18mmf28 #myleicaphoto #myleicajourney #throughyourleica #leicagram #leica_world #myleicacompanion #leica_society #leicaedc #leicacommunity #leica #leicacamera #leicalowlight

I was curious how smooth the process would be, crossing a Schengen border. Both train and air travel had their appeal. Spending more than half a day on train sounded ideal in theory, but I felt the risk as I already missed connections many times (I hope Google Maps would have its routing options for someone unfamiliar with the region). . I was surprised flying was much cheaper. My criteria for transportation got ambiguous. It was easy to get a window seat even at the last minute. Collected pieces of colorfully painted houses at Burano Island on finishing the stay in Venice. Dared to use newer equipments to capture vividness. The endless rally for a stamp with a hazy shape that I can't tell until I push it. It's fun to think about where to press, what kind to stamp on the spot and make trial. . I couldn't get here when I came before. After walking around the main island for a few days, I remembered that I was to go here from the list, and when I came here, there was nothing, 3, 40 minutes by vaporetto (water bus) from the main island. I walked around the island in about an hour. . Was comfortable staying here. I stayed in the apartment, not a hotel. I was in a luck, wifi was so fast, and I finally uploaded a lot of photos I had taken to the cloud at once. It is enough to share the shower and toilet for living in such short stay. I unexpectedly met a peerless beauty wrapped in a towel after taking shower who would be staying in the opposite room, and on other occasion I struggled to communicate with a pretty happy woman with gestures while showing photos who cleans the toilet every day, same time and eventually got a nail clipper. When it's fun, I almost forget my previous plans and "live" little by little, but there are still many places to go. Decided the next destination and moved before I get used to it any more, as my legs are buried. . ヴェネツィア滞在の締めには、ブラーノ島を歩いて、カラフルにペイントされた家々を見てきた。敢えて新しい機材を使って、鮮やかさをクリアに写し取る。押してみるまでわからない、形のぼんやりしたひとつひとつのスタンプラリー。どのへんに押せばいいかも、どんなスタンプを押すのかもその場で考えるのが楽しい。 . 前に来たときはここに到達できなかった。本島を数日歩き尽くし、そうだ、ここに行くんだった、と思い起こして来てみると、なんてことはない、本島からヴァポレット（水上バス）で3、40分。島を歩いて廻るのに1時間でだいたい歩き尽くせてしまった。 . ヴェネツィアは居心地が良かった。ホテルはやめてアパートに滞在した。Wifiが速くて、それまで撮ったたくさんの写真たちをようやく一気にクラウドに上げきった。シャワーとトイレは共用で十分だ。向かいの部屋に泊まっているであろう、シャワーを浴び終えタオルを巻いた絶世の美女と予期せず出会い頭に出くわしたり、トイレ掃除のおばちゃんと毎日言葉の通じない中写真を見せながら身振り手振りでコミュニケーションしながら数日かけて爪切りをゲットしたり。楽しいと事前の計画も忘れかけ、少しずつ「暮らし」はじめてしまうのだが、まだ行くべき場所はたくさんある。慣れすぎて足が埋まる前に、次の目的地を決めて移動する。 . . . . . #leicasl3 #aposummicron35 #elmarittl18 #myleicaphoto #myleicajourney #throughyourleica #leicagram #leica_world #myleicacompanion #leica_society #leicaedc #leicacommunity #leica #leicacamera
