EBRU BAYBARA DEMIR IS THE BCWP 2023 WINNER The Turkish chef Ebru Baybara has been proclaimed the winner of the Basque Culinary World Prize 2023 for her contribution, from gastronomy, to cultural integration, betting on social development and biodiversity, being involved for two decades in initiatives that address from the migratory crisis in the region, the revitalization of soils in the face of climate change or even humanitarian assistance demanded by tragedies such as the earthquake suffered in Turkey. In the many initiatives in which she is part of, Baybara Demir empowers women from both countries and dismantles prejudices by highlighting the richness of the exchange of cultures. She currently supports the agricultural development cooperative From Soil to Plate, in which volunteers from the region encourage the production and consumption of local, ancestral grains such as Sorgül. BCWP 2023に選ばれたのはトルコ人の女性シェフEbru Baybara Demir。 Ebru Baybara Demirシェフは、社会発展と生物多様性の観点からガストロノミーを文化の統合へと導いた貢献により、BCWP 2023を受賞しました。彼女は地域の移民危機、気候変動に直面した土壌の再生、さらにはトルコで起きた地震などの災害時に必要な人道支援に対処する取り組みに20年間携わってきました。自身が参加する多くの取り組みの中で、彼女は文化交流の豊かさを強調することによって自国及び隣国の女性たちに力を与え、偏見を排除しています。現在は、地元の先祖伝来の穀物の生産や消費を奨励する地域ボランティアによる農業開発協同組合「From Soil to Plate」を支援しています。

On Monday, June 5th, the Basque Culinary World Prize (BCWP) was held in Toyama Prefecture, organized by the Basque Culinary Center (BCC), a Culinary University in San Sebastian, Spain. Yoshihiro Narisawa, a BCWP Jury and member of the International Board, acted as the host for this event, which was held for the first time in Japan. Established by BCC and the Basque government, this international conference brings together top chefs from around the world to delve deeply into and discuss various themes such as the environment and social issues surrounding food. This prize is not about competition. As a symbol of achievement in the world of gastronomy, it is intended to celebrate the excellent deeds of chefs, learn from them, and connect them to further progress in the future. I would be happy if people in Japan and other Asian countries would take this opportunity to learn more about BCWP's actions and become interested in the problems faced by people involved in "food" around the world. In addition, all chefs are encouraged to demonstrate their abilities and take new actions. We will be waiting for applications from candidates for the prize winner!
