恒例の「日本橋橋洗い」。毎年７月の第４日曜に開催、昭和46年より続くイベントは今回で53回目を迎えました！ 日本橋は日本の道路の起点である「道路元標」が埋設された重要文化財。現在の石造りの日本橋は明治44年にその当時の最先端の技術によってつくられ、今年で114年！その高い技術と美しい意匠性から今も「名橋」として親しまれています。 三越の名物「ライオン像」がお客さまをお出迎えしている本館1階の「ライオン口」。ライオン像の前でお待ち合わせをしたことのある方もいるのではないでしょうか。 今ではおなじみのライオン像が最初に置かれたのは大正3(1914)年、現在の本館完成の際だそうです。 このライオン像は、三越百貨店の基礎を築いたとされる日比翁助が、欧米視察をした際にイギリスで注文したもの。ロンドンのトラファルガー広場にあるネルソン記念塔の下の獅子像に感銘を受け、モデルとして作らせたんだそう。 そして、ライオン口の上方に視線を移すと見えてくるのは金色に輝く「マーキュリー像」。大正12(1923)年に設置されました。設置当時、イタリア国立フローレンス博物館 に所蔵されていたジョバニーダ・ポロニアよる「マーキュリー」 像を模し制作したもので、商業の神様としても知られています。(三越百年史より) のれんをくぐり風除室に入ると、レトロな雰囲気を醸し出す天井装飾が目に入ります。エレガントなデザインの入口を通ると少し華やいだような気分になりますね！
