The rotational power of the spine plays a crucial role in the punching motion! To deliver a powerful punch, the whole body needs to work together, and the rotation of the spine is key. When you recreate the punching motion, you can see that as the spine rotates, the punching side performs a "push" motion, while the opposite side performs a "pull" motion. Moreover, using the rotational power of the spine allows you to efficiently transfer the energy from your lower body to your upper body. Specifically, the following mechanisms play: 【Energy transfer from the lower body】 When throwing a punch, the power originates from the lower body. The force generated transmits through the spine. In other words… “No stability, No strength” When running your pelvis tilts forward and your lower follows by arching forward. This is called “lumbar extension” which happens naturally but requires a core strong enough to resist against the extension. This exercise has all the elements a runner needs. From core-to-hip coordination, anti-extensional core strength, anti-rotational core strength and even hip flexor strength.
