演劇倶楽部『座』は「日本の俳優たちよ、日本を学ぼう」を合言葉に、壤晴彦が1992年に演劇塾を設立、1998年から公演活動を開始し、2014年にNPO法人格を取得しました。
「日本の美しいことばと姿と音楽」を後世に伝え残すための活動として、日本の文学作品を原文のまま舞台化した「詠み芝居」と「朗読劇」の創作上演や、プロの俳優のための「和の演技塾」、そして広く一般の方に向けた演技・朗読ワークショップも実施しています。

“Engeki(Theater)-Club-Za” was established in 1992 by Haruhiko Joh under the idea that Japanese actors should have knowledge of their own country. Since 1998, there have been productions of Yomi-shibai, an original style of theater performance.
Yomi-shibai is an original style of performance presented by “Engeki-Club-Za.” Yomi means “reading” and shibai is “acting.” A classic Japanese novel is three-dimensionally performed with a narrator reading the narrative part, while the actors play the characters. Without adapting the words of the novel into a drama play, we perform the entire novel as it is—adding live music and dance performances to enrich the world of the work.
