I wanted to visit Koyasan in summer after being so impressed the last time I visited in winter. This time I was introduced to the oldest syukubo (lodging house). It was a magical and miraculous stay, and I was able to see the procession of the monks. . Koyasan is a sacred place of esoteric Shingon Buddhism, founded by Kobo Daishi - Kukai 1,200 years ago. Of the 117 temples, 51 temples are designated as "shukubo," or lodging houses, where visitors can stay overnight. I stayed there myself. The amazing thing about Koyasan is that Kukai, a master of the monk who died 1,200 years ago, is still believed to be alive and meditating there, wishing for world peace and the happiness of people. This is a ceremony to deliver food to Kukai, who waits in the mausoleum, and is performed twice a day. Two monks carry the food into the mausoleum in a white wooden box.A guide walks in the lead, crosses the Gobyo Bridge, offers the meal into the Londo Hall, reads the sutra, and returns to the Gobyo Sho again. It may not be visible as a figure, but Kobo-Daishi Kukai is certainly there. There, the same deep faith that has always been and will always be present is alive and well. The village is located in an area with steep mountain folds in a harsh climate, and the Shogawa River flows between the steep slopes, forming a settlement in its watershed. The village is also one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan, and was once known as an unexplored region because it was cut off from the surrounding area during the winter season. It is famous for its snowy winter scenery, which I visited several times to photograph. I visited this place again this time through the usual tunnels. This was my first visit in the summer, and it was a really beautiful landscape with green rice paddies and mountains. It is held to pray for the exorcism of evil spirits and good health. It is one of the three major festivals in Kyoto and also one of the three major festivals in Japan. The "Nachi-no-Ougi-Matsuri" is a ritual in which the twelve Kumano deities are transferred to a six-meter-high fan-shaped portable shrine, which represents Mitaki(The waterfall), and are carried from the head shrine to Mitaki, where they are welcomed by twelve large torches on the approach to Mitaki and purified with the flames of the torches. We took our seats from 6:00 am and waited for 8 hours for the festival which started at 2:00 pm. But it was well worth the eight-hour wait. The heat from the flames was so intense that I thought my camera would melt. I woke up early in the morning to go to Fushimi Inari, a popular tourist destination, to enjoy the good morning air and to avoid the crowds. When I arrived at Fushimi Inari, the fog was so thick that even the people at the shrine were taking pictures with their phones, creating a unique atmosphere. I started walking to the top of the mountain. When I reached a little clearing in the middle of the mountain, suddenly a light shone and I was moved by its divinity. I felt as if God had called me there for a short time, and I was filled with gratitude. Taiwan donated over 22 billion yen ($145,000,000USD) to Japan, the largest donation in the world, after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Just three days after the Earthquake, Taiwanese relief workers headed to Japan to assist in the disaster relief efforts. I remember being deeply moved by the pro-Japan sentiment in Taiwan.
