It’s important to plan when to respond to customer messages as part of your daily workflow. Customer communication may include birthday greetings, thank-you notes after recent purchases, replies to inquiries, check-ins, as well as updates on new arrivals and events. If your store aims to build strong customer relationships, you must allocate time for these activities. Leaving it entirely to individuals can make time management difficult, and may even lead to off-hours work. While factors like busy store conditions or staffing shortages are understandable, customer outreach should be treated as an essential part of service—just like in-store interactions. The other day, we conducted the final wrap-up session of an eight-month annual customer development program at Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores. This year, 34 participants joined the program. Starting with lectures and continuing through presentations, role-playing, and reflection sessions, they deepened their learning in a practical and hands-on manner throughout the entire process. Please feel free to contact us via the link in the profile ( @miwa__doi ). #クライアンテリング#顧客づくり#企業研修#clienteling#seminer2026/03/23に公開- 指定なしhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/クライアンテリング#クライアンテリングhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/顧客づくり#顧客づくりhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/企業研修#企業研修https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/clienteling#clientelinghttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/seminer#seminer0.44%660【メールは温度が下がる前に返す】 LINEやメールでのやりとりが主流になった今、デジタル上でのコミュニケーションは避けて通れません。とても便利な一方で、少し間違えると違った形で相手に伝わることもあります。 人とのコミニケーションは、常に相手がどう受け取るかが全てです。 こちらが一生懸命伝えたつもりでも、相手が誤解していたり、意図が伝わっていなければ、そのコミュニケーションは成立していません。 例えば、製品の魅力を説明する時に、お客様の知らない専門用語ばかり並べても、魅力が伝わらないどころか、「独りよがりな接客」に思えて、気持ちが離れてしまうことも。 対面であれば、表情から「ちゃんと伝わっていないかも」と汲み取れますが、テキストのメッセージではそうはいきません。 だからこそ、常に読む側の気持ちを考えて送る必要があります。 そしてもう一つ、私が普段から意識していることに、「読んだらすぐに返信する」というものがあります。 なぜなら、目の前にいる相手とのコミュニケーションであれば、嬉しい話も悲しい話もその場で共感でき、感情が伝わるけれど、メッセージのやりとりで時間を置いてしまうと、その温度が下がってしまうと感じるからです。 もちろん、冷静になって返信すべきことには、時間をかけて文章を書きます。受け手が感じることが全てなので、感情のままではなく、誤解のないよう注意しながら書く時もあります。 どちらにしても、すぐに返信できる状況にあれば開封しますし、そうでなければ返信できる状況になってから開封することが大切です。 ［Reply Before the “Temperature” Drops］ In today’s world, where LINE and email are the main forms of communication, digital interaction is unavoidable. It’s convenient, but if handled poorly, messages can be misunderstood. In communication, what matters most is how the other person perceives it. Even if you believe you’ve explained something clearly, if the other person misunderstands or misses your intent, the communication has failed. For example, when explaining a product, using too many technical terms the customer doesn’t understand can make your message ineffective. It may even come across as self-centered service, causing the customer to lose interest. In face-to-face interactions, you can read expressions and notice if something isn’t getting through—but with text messages, you can’t. That’s why you must always consider the reader’s perspective when writing. Another key habit: reply as soon as you read a message. In real-time conversations, emotions—whether positive or negative—are shared instantly. But if you delay replying to messages, that emotional “temperature” fades. Of course, some situations require a thoughtful, composed response. In those cases, take time to craft your message carefully to avoid misunderstandings. In any case, if you’re able to reply immediately, open the message right away. A birthday message is a simple yet highly effective form of personal communication. Early in my career, I mailed handwritten cards. Later, after receiving a company mobile phone, I used email or LINE, and occasionally called customers directly to extend my congratulations. Customer information is a valuable asset, and using that data to create one-to-one communication is a privilege unique to sales professionals. If I was scheduled to be off on a customer’s birthday, I sent the message the day before:“Happy Birthday in advance.” Even customers who had not visited the store for some time often told me that this message reminded them of me. For those who find it challenging to build personal relationships with customers, starting with birthday messages is an effective first step. The goal is to create long-term connections by communicating with each customer while understanding their personality, values, family situation, and lifestyle changes. Customers remember when we recall something they previously mentioned, suggests items that match their interests, checks in even when it does not immediately lead to a sale, or shows genuine concern about their work or family. These moments create a human connection that goes beyond polite, manual-based service. Looking back, I was not very good at building this kind of relationship. The thank-you messages I sent after purchases were always the same template. However, what truly matters is not how you write the message, but what you talk about with the customer during the interaction. When the conversation focuses on the customer’s lifestyle and preferences rather than just the product, it becomes easy to include a personal touch in your follow-up message. Customer service that focuses only on making a sale today is very different from service that aims to welcome the same customer back in the future. If you often rely on template messages, start by paying attention to the conversations during the sale. #クライアンテリング#顧客づくり#関係構築#clienteling#loyalcustomers2026/03/13に公開- 指定なしhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/クライアンテリング#クライアンテリングhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/顧客づくり#顧客づくりhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/関係構築#関係構築https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/clienteling#clientelinghttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/loyalcustomers#loyalcustomers0.53%790【「よい第一印象」をつくる機会は二度とこない】 「メラビアンの法則」をご存知ですか？ 人に与える印象は「視覚情報」が55%、「聴覚情報」は38%、「言語情報」は7%とされています。 私は店頭での作業中や待機中でも、常に口角を上げる意識をしていました。 接客中でもそうでなくても、常に口角を上げておく意識を持つだけで、お客様があなたに声をかけやすくなります。 さらに、人は言葉(内容)からだけではなく、表情からも相手の見えない感情を受け取っています。 接客においては、お客様と同じような声のトーンと表情で相槌を打つ姿で、「ちゃんと話を聞いている」と伝えたいものです。 このように、相手の仕草や言動を真似ることを、心理学では「ミラーリング効果」といって、相手から信頼や好意を得やすくなると言われています。 「聴覚情報」においても、「ミラーリング効果」は使えるテクニックです。お客様の話すスピードや声のトーン、ボリュームも合わせることで心地よく感じていただけるはずです。 ただ、私の場合、完全にお客様に合わせるというよりも、ほんの少しだけ主導権を握るイメージでいます。 声のトーンやスピードで空気を整え、会話の内容でも流れをコントロールする。雑談が続いたら商品の話に戻す、商品の話ばかりになっていたらお客様のバックグラウンドについて聞いてみる。 このように「ハンドルは自分が握って導いていく」ということは、強引に進めるわけではなく、安心してついていける存在になると言うことです。 そのような信頼していただける存在になってこそ、「提案型の接客」ができるのです。 ［You never get a second chance to make a good first impression］ According to the Mehrabian rule, the impression we give others consists of 55% visual information, 38% auditory information, and only 7% verbal information. Because of this, I always stayed conscious of keeping a slight smile, even while working or waiting on the sales floor. Simply lifting the corners of your mouth makes it easier for customers to approach you. Facial expressions communicate emotions that words alone cannot. In customer service, responding with a similar tone and expression while nodding shows that you are truly listening. This is known in psychology as the mirroring effect, where subtly matching the other person’s behavior helps build trust and rapport. The same idea applies to voice—matching a customer’s speaking speed, tone, and volume creates a comfortable interaction. At the same time, I try to keep a slight sense of leadership in the conversation. By adjusting tone, pace, and topics—returning to product talk when small talk goes too long, or asking about the customer when the discussion becomes too product-focused—you guide the flow naturally. Leading the conversation does not mean forcing it. For example, when you are wearing your uniform and taking the employee elevator at a department store, or using the staff restroom, you may find yourself alongside others who work in the same store. Those colleagues are not merely fellow employees; many of them may already be customers of your brand, or they may become customers in the future. Even behind the scenes, your behavior and your words require careful attention. I was always mindful, even on my days off when chatting with friends at a café, to avoid conversations or expressions that would clearly identify my company. Whether or not I was wearing my uniform or standing in the store, I carried the brand’s name with me at all times. The awareness that “I am myself, but I am also a representative of ○○” must always remain in the back of your mind. Whether you are a student or a working professional, if you belong to any organization, you are always seen as “△△ from ○○ University” or “△△ from ○○ Company.” Both your positive and negative actions reflect on that name. I have always wanted to be someone who brings pride to the name I represent, and at the same time, someone who would never cause harm to it. A strong and lasting relationship between a brand and the people who work for it can only be built on mutual respect. #クライアンテリング#顧客づくり#ブランド#clienteling#brand2026/03/03に公開- 指定なしhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/クライアンテリング#クライアンテリングhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/顧客づくり#顧客づくりhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/ブランド#ブランドhttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/clienteling#clientelinghttps://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/brand#brand0.83%1231【「主役」が魅力的に見える空間づくり】 販売員時代に勉強できてよかったことの一つに、VMD(Visual Merchandising)があります。 店舗や空間をデザインし、商品配置やディスプレイを工夫することで、お客様の購買意欲を高める販売促進手法です。 身だしなみもそうですが、あくまで主役は商品です。だからこそ、VMDでは「より商品が魅力的に見えるために」という視点を学んできました。 その中で、私が特に大切にしていた考え方を紹介します。 "Less is more" 「少ないことは、より豊かなこと」という意味です。つまり、一つの棚に多くの商品を置くよりも、少ない方が洗練されて美しく見えるという考え方です。 売上アップのために多くの商品をディスプレイするよりも、ブランド本来の世界観を表現するために、空間をデザインするという視点も大切です。 また、ディスプレイはただ美しく飾るという意識だけではなく、「お客様が商品をイメージしやすいように」考えることも大切です。 VMDは「物言わぬ販売員」と称されるように、そこにあるだけで、お客様に使い方や購入後の未来を想像させたり、憧れを持っていただくこともできるのです。 このように、お客様の視点や感覚を持つことで、VMDが持つ効果は最大限できると感じます。 ［Creating a Space Where the “Star” Shines］ One of the most valuable things I learned during my time as a sales associate was VMD (Visual Merchandising). VMD is a sales promotion technique that involves designing a store or space and thoughtfully arranging products and displays to increase customer's desire to purchase. Just like personal appearance, presentation matters—but the true star is always the product. That is why, in VMD, I learned to constantly ask: “How can we make the product look even more appealing?” Here are some principles I particularly valued. “Less is more” This phrase means that simplicity creates richness. In other words, placing fewer items on a shelf often looks more refined and beautiful than displaying many products at once. Rather than simply increasing the number of displayed items to boost sales, it is equally important to design the space in a way that expresses the brand’s authentic world and identity. Design for Imagination, Not Just Decoration Display is not only about making things look beautiful. It is also about helping customers easily imagine the product in their own lives. VMD is often described as a “silent salesperson.” Simply by being present, it can inspire customers to picture how to use the product, envision their future after purchasing it, and even feel a sense of aspiration. Much of what I did—especially when it came to building customer relationships—was based on intuition. It was only after I left my position that I began carefully breaking down my actions and translating them into clear language. Through that process, I realized something important: if people think, “That only worked because it was you,” then the knowledge has no real value. What truly matters is helping others feel, “This is something I could do too.” To achieve that, the first step is to ask yourself “why.” Why did I approach the customer at that moment? Why did I choose those words? Why did I respond in that way? Every action has a reason behind it. By uncovering those reasons, instinct becomes structured, repeatable skill. Another key is to use stories and analogies rather than relying on textbook explanations. Simply stating how customer building should be done is not enough. Connect with the “Three Must-Haves” The most natural way to introduce related products is when presenting the “three must-have items” to the customer. For example, you might wrap a scarf around a bag handle when handing it over, or place a pair of shoes at the customer’s feet while they’re holding a bag in front of a mirror. 2. Connect with the Customer’s Belongings Use the opportunity to compliment the customer’s belongings as a natural segue: “That’s a beautiful watch. May I ask where it’s from? It’s important to reach out as soon as possible—ideally within three days—while the customer’s memory of the interaction is still fresh. A timely thank-you message helps strengthen the relationship and leaves a lasting positive impression. In your message, be sure to include elements such as: •Your appreciation for their visit or purchase •How much you enjoyed spending time with them •Your genuine wish to see them again soon These points communicate a clear message: “I remember you.” Additionally, it’s effective to include a few personal details you discussed during the initial meeting, such as: •“How was the restaurant you mentioned you were going to after your visit?” •“Did the surprise gift turn out the way you hoped?” •“You mentioned your trip—how was it?” By referring to these personal topics, you help the customer recall your conversation and the warm connection you shared. Avoid sending generic messages that could apply to anyone. Instead, always include a specific detail that makes the message feel truly personal. Finally, while your memory of the conversation and the atmosphere is still vivid, take a moment to convey that shared experience back to the customer. Of course, making a sale is important, but if you want customers to come back, it’s essential to first provide them with a meaningful experience in the store. This idea of providing an experience resonates with my own approach. I always try to serve customers not simply by selling the product in front of me, but by offering them a vision of the future that comes with owning it. For example: ✔︎ The motivation to go to work starting tomorrow with this new bag ✔︎ The smile on a girlfriend’s face when she receives this piece of jewelry as a gift In this way, instead of just selling the product, I help the customer imagine the future that comes after they’ve purchased it. Making a sale on the spot isn’t everything. One thing I used to do was include a handwritten note whenever I shipped an item a customer had purchased. When they opened the package, they would not only feel the excitement of receiving their product but also recall the pleasant moment they shared with you in the store. Here’s another tip: If a customer mentions something personal like, “It’s my birthday today,” or “Our wedding anniversary is coming up,” I would add a short message to the gift wrapping right there on the spot. Many customers noticed it only after getting home and were pleasantly surprised. Some even came back later to thank me — and became regulars. Memory naturally fades over time, but these small gestures — like a heartfelt note or a thoughtful message — help bring you back into the customer’s mind at just the right moment. And that emotional connection often leads to their next visit.
