Suicide attempts have a ripple effect that affects not only the individuals that attempt to die by suicide, but also the families, communities and all societies. Trying to prevent suicide is sometimes as simple as asking a question that many of us are afraid to ask ; “do you have thoughts of suicide?” “Are you thinking of ending your life?” Do you feel like you have no reason to live?” Many times questions like these will allow the person thinking about it open up a little, and think twice about attempting to end their life. There are many risk factors associated with being suicidal, one’s entire being is flipped upside down, not only is it a possibility that their attempt ends in tragedy, but they will face challenges like substance abuse, trauma, financial problems and so much more from the attempt itself, and of course mental illnesses that may not be there will surface. Barriers to accessing proper health care is a world wide issue. Let’s advocate together to break the chain of fear to ask for help.
