Since its inception, this location has served as my permanent base for showcasing my work. In light of this transition, I have some special news to share. I have been selected as one of the "101 Milliners of the World" by one of the world's largest hat museums, and two of my pieces will be added to their permanent collection. Together, we selected this singular piece. A milestone like Kanreki naturally leads to stories of one’s life. While looking at the headpiece, I listened to the many stories of the time she has built up over the years. I believe that describing a color is, at times, a way to convey one's emotions and aesthetic values. This is a pure, untainted red—leaning neither toward orange nor purple. In the color wheel, it is the most definitive expression of "red." With almost no hint of yellow or blue, the hue exists with striking clarity. I feel this strong, unclouded red is perfectly suited to celebrate a life’s milestone, symbolizing one's will and resolve. What we wear reflects who we are. The coloring features purple peeking through layers of black feathers. I think black holds every color within it. Because of this, I feel that no matter what colors it embraces, it ultimately pulls everything together. The piece is made from rabbit felt, a material regarded as a luxury in traditional millinery. Although our consultation took place at the studio and the piece was delivered by post, the client was truly pleased with the finished work, which has become a great encouragement for my future creations. While imagining the person who would receive it, I chose a soft pistachio tone and adorned it with a generously scaled bow. The bow rises intentionally in height, like a butterfly taking flight. Though a static object, the form holds a sense of fleeting movement within it. It was designed to possess a strong presence, without ever compromising elegance. The veil is a reproduction of a vintage design. What makes a piece feel "mode" while remaining classical is not the mere reproduction of the past, but perhaps the re-composition of elements refined through history, rebalanced for the present moment. For the base material, I used rabbit felt, regarded as the finest quality in traditional millinery. May this headpiece quietly accompany the sentiment of the giver and the future of the one who receives it. This form sits precisely between a hat and a headpiece in scale. The design is intuitive, yet never careless. There is no fixed recipe for the placement of the pearls; each piece is completed directly on the hat. The ribbons are made from 100% silk. Their matte surface, holding a subtle inner luminosity, reveals a freshness and depth unique to silk. Design and improvisation. Both are simply different modes of expression. I believe that the time spent imagining the recipient—choosing the colors and the design with care—is, in a way, also a gift to oneself. This process is one of the great joys that a present can hold. This time, the piece was commissioned for a certain artist, with the colors thoughtfully selected to harmonize with the palette of their work. The headpiece is crafted from high-quality rabbit felt. The base is a retro-inspired blue reminiscent of the 1970s, adorned with an orange veil and layered feathers in matching blue and a soft cream tone. I created this piece with the hope that it will gently accompany and complement the recipient’s own creations. It would make me very happy if they enjoy it. This piece is crafted in a classic cloche silhouette. In response to the request for a straight brim, the brim section was blocked twice, allowing it to settle into a refined and precise shape. For the material, I used premium rabbit fur felt, one of the finest and most traditional materials in millinery. At the client’s request for a simple design, the trimming features a felt ribbon made from the same material as the hat, gently brightened with a layer of velvet ribbon placed on top. ──────────────────── Because a hat rests lightly on the head, it experiences far less wear than clothing or shoes. With proper care, a well-crafted hat can accompany its owner for over a century, becoming a piece of craftsmanship that transcends generations. When I once shared the idea of a “hat that lasts 100 years,” the client who placed this order remembered those words. When they commissioned the piece, they said, “I will wear it for 100 years.” Their words touched me deeply. Even a hundred years from now, when none of us are here, I hope this hat will continue to be cherished somewhere — quietly loved by someone who finds beauty in it.
