The original shrine building was located on a sandbar in the Ashida River and was repeatedly washed away by floods, but it was rebuilt in 1633 by Mizuno Katsunari, the first lord of the Fukuyama Domain. The current shrine building was rebuilt in the Showa era using vermilion concrete in a cantilevered style. This year, the blossoms bloomed earlier than usual, and perhaps due to the continued warm weather, they reached full bloom all at once. However, due to aging, it will soon close its doors after 68 years of history. I was born near Hiroshima Castle and the Atomic Bomb Dome, and my first school field trip was to Hiroshima Castle. I have fond memories of going crayfish catching with my friends in the moat, which was like a swamp back then, during the summer. In the past, the view from the top floor was a 360° panorama, with no tall buildings obstructing the view, allowing you to see every corner of Hiroshima City. This will be my last visit to Hiroshima Castle. The weather was good, and I made sure to imprint the view and scenery from the keep firmly in my memory.
